They experienced some sort of catostophic failure on the way in to work yesterday. The car sounds like a crop duster. Noise is coming from both front and rear banks.

On go the stock manifolds.

I'm not putting up with any more header BS with this car. That's the second set of headers. The first (OBX) I had welded twice. I'm not welding these. I'm done.

I'm in a 4 cyl Altima rental now. Damn - Nissan interiors SUCK! SOOO generic and plain. Their engineers/designers must have absolutely no creativity when it comes to interior design.

Nah - I'm going to go stock for a while. If the lack of power annoys me, I'll consider an upgrade.

OK - here's the deal - and the possible cause.

The exhaust hanger broke off and took with it a hole about 3/4 inch in diameter in the top of the pipe. The hot exhaust was coming out and going straight into the power steering rack. I also had a crack in the middle pipe on the front bank.

I had taken the car through the carwash the night before and bought the ultimate wash that sprays the bottom of the car. I'm sure it sprayed the header (and it's not the first time I've been through there), but I wonder if a small crack formed when it was sprayed by the cold wash water. I dunno - when it rains it probably gets it just as bad...

In any event, the stockers are back on (haven't driven it yet) and I figure it'll probably stay that way. That is - unless I start missing the power the headers provided.

I must say - the stock headers are really made of THICK tubing. It's got to be twice the thickness of the Alphawerks and OBX headers. I don't think anybody ever has to worry about them cracking!
