Thumbs up Almost lost job for buying Type S

Yes that's correct! I sell cars at a Chrysler dealership and bought an Acura! My boss makes me park it out in the north 40! He asked me why I did that, and my response was " I didn't come to Rome to live like a Monk"! LOL!!!!!!! Love my Silver Type S 5,000 miles with Hn R sports and window tint.

Not to slag you because you sell Chryslers, but how do you sleep @ night, knowing you sell POS to people. Furthermore, I can see you're bossess point. Perhaps you should try to sell Acura.

I've always wondered this: if someone asks you what kind of car you drive and you say Acura, what do you say when they ask why you didn't buy a Chrysler instead? Say a 300M or the like. I mean, you're trying to convince them a Chrysler is the best car they could buy at their price point, right? And you don't even drive one yourself.

Don't get me wrong--I think it's cool that you own an Acura and I'm sure salesmen owning competitor's cars are probably the rule instead of the exception. I just want to know how you justify the decision to potential customers. After all, most consumers consider auto salesmen to be informed and knowledgeable about quality cars (whether or not that is always the case is open to debate). It's like the Coke truck driver who got fired when his boss saw him drinking a Pepsi while making his deliveries.

Try to look for a job at ACURA,and I think you will have discount for your next ACURA product, and the most important you can make us a nice price for 2005 TL..

When you sell cars at a major dealership, do you get a free demo car to drive home after work? I am sure that there are car salespersons that make a great income. However, I don't think that a salesperson at all dealerships must own the same brand of vehicles that one sells. For example, if a salesperson works at a Ferrari dealership, is that salesperson must own a Ferrari?
I think the knowledge about the products that he/she sells has more priority than what one owns and drives after work. Just my 2 cents.

Easy answer: "My wife made me do it."

I think most people would accept the fact that salesmen working in a Ferrari dealership don't own Ferraris. If you could afford the Ferrari, what the hell are you doing in sales? Or working, period? My point was, given the fact that Chrysler sells a product that roughly competes in the price category/luxury level of the Acura (think 300M), and he chose the Acura there must have been a reason why. After all, he should have (a) better than average knowledge about Chrysler products, features, service needs, and--most important--reliability, and (b) he would be able to get the car for a better price than the average consumer could (in theory sell it to himself at dealer cost with $0 commission). So he's got inside info about the car and gets a better price than Joe Bagodonuts on the street and he still goes for the Acura. My question (as a potential customer) is why.

I think the knowledge about the products that he/she sells has more priority than what one owns and drives after work. Just my 2 cents.
Definitely true. If it's a salesman just starting out and he's riding a bike to work, his knowledge and customer service are more important than how he gets to work. Likewise, if he owns and drives a Ferrari, I'm not going to think Chrysler's are any worse, just that there was nothing in that comparable price/performance range offered by Chrysler so he *had* to go elsewhere to get the kind of car he wanted.

Bottom line, he bought a car within a category that Chrysler competes in with a similar product, but chose a different manufacturer.

Thats OK... the dealership where my dad got his ML320 delivered the car... The salesman brought another guy to give him a ride home. Well the salesman who delivered it had the other guy drive HIS car... a 95 Acura Legend. So a Mercedes salesman drives an Acura...

Damn BLEXV6, cut the guy some slack! Just because you sell a particular line of cars doesn't mean you have to own one of them! Especially since salesmen tend to move from dealer to dealer.

Instead, just congratulate him on his very wise purchase!

Let me set the record straight. I use to work for Acura in the early 90s, but due to 9 out of 10 Acura dealers, most of them have about a 50 car supply of used cars. If you have never been in the car business before then you should know that 70% of your income comes from selling used vehicles. We presently have a 300 car supply of used cars which means more sales. The average commission on new is about $250, and the average comm on used is $600! I also might add that Chrysler has the absolute worst Lease Residuals on planet earth. You know why that is? It's because there cars don't keep there value A $20,000 Chrysler cost more to lease than a $31,000 Type S! As far as getting a fair deal on an Acura you don't have to work there to achieve that. Thanks for your reply!

I still want to know how you sleep at night? And I know that residuals on the Chryslers are low because due to the fact they are a POS, they depreciate like hell. Now if you are making more money @ Chrysler, that I can understand and I am sorry if I insulted you. I have owned one Chrysler and never again, and yet there are many who are not as concerned with quality.

My Previous car was a 94' Eagle Vision ESi (same thing as a Chrysler or Plymouth or Dodge) and after having the A/C go out around 45k miles, breaking again about 5k miles later (About 3 months after the 1 year warranty on it expired) and then having transmission replaced at 55k, I was like FTS, I'm gonna spend my money on a new car, not this POS. That was when I decided to get my car. Get this, I couldn't even get $4,000 for the car on a trade in!!! (This was in Oct of 99)

I would buy 300 M that's a very nice car. If I worked at Chrysler dealership, I would pick that car up in a second.

TL is a nice car but I think 300 M is nice in its own way.

300M

Yes the 300M is very nice! Same price as a Type S, but $100 more per month to lease it! So I ask you? How nice is it now? How nice is it if you want to sell it in 1 year and lose approx $8,000! That won't happen with an Acura. These are things I take into consideration when making a large purchase. Yes the 300M is nice, but I can't remember the last time we sold one! If we have 3 300 Ms in stock Chrysler considers that a 4 month supply! We don't average selling 1 300M per month! Wait 3 years and pick one up for around $13,000 to $14,000 if you really like em, and make sure to get the warranty that includes car rental. Good Luck

Yup, I agree with you that the 300 M depreciates much faster than the TL but if you want to sell your TL after a year you would lose about 6 grand as well. regardless of the car that you buy its value will depreciate the most in the first year. That's one of the reasons why I still have my tl.
I had it for little over a year now and I think it's worth only around 25 or 26. Not really sure. My next car will either be a sports car or a truck but it the price is right I'll pick up a 300 M. what the hell. Another car in the lot won't hurt. Are you in the east coast or west? I may just come to your dealership to pick one up soon. Do you still have 0% apr?

The only job available one time was a Mcdonalds job. So I worked there. I hated the food so I ate Burger King on my lunch break. The boss saw me and fired me that very second. Bastard.

No really, just because you work one place does not mean you have to like the product. Excellent choice on the Acura TL.

Come on now, just because one product is a better quality or value than another doesn't mean that no-one should sell the other! Live and let live, the guy's got to make a living

Btw, Can you tell me when I can see the Crossfire on the road in Canada, and how much will it cost, and do you think it ill be a worth to buy car, I meant the quality?

Best,

TL Addictive

I work at CompUSA, and I got **** from my manager when he asked me what kind of computer(s) I have, my answer is "I built them all except the laptops..." and then I bought a brand new laptop which we have in the store, but I got it somewhere cheaper cuz it's still cheaper than the employee discount (discount is at cost...). He's kinda mad but o well.

I am surprised the 300M is selling that bad! I had the impression the reliability of this car was very good, although not quite to the TL's level.

Unhappy 300 M

It's not the quality that these don't sell. In this price range car 75% of the buyers lease there autos. Acura has the best lease residuals and money factors. I had one for a demo and it was in the shop 5 times before it hit 5,000 miles! It's a great cruiser as long as your going straight! It's very boaty corning and manuvering in and out of traffic.
