Almost getting ripped at the oil change place

I was getting my oil changed today at Oakleys car wash ( thats in brooklyn for you NYC people ) So I'm sitting there and the paki comes into the waiting room asking me if I want oil from the bottle or from the pump? I told him I wanted Honda oil ( which came in a bottle ). My question is, is there a difference between the bottle oil and the pump oil. Also the bottle oil cost $15 more then the pump

First of all, oil change from a car wash place? That just doesn't sound right at all. When you tell them you want Honda oil, did they have that or did they have to go to a Honda dealer to get it for you? We have Jiffy Lube here and they use oil from the pump which is Quaker State, I never heard of anyone telling them to use a certain oil, besides, Honda doesn't make oil, I think they use Castrol or some other brand.
Do yourself a favor and change the oil yourself next time, at least you will know what your putting in and be more selective.

You never know what they put in the pump. I take it that you are using the 5w-20 from the bottle and that may be the reason for the extra $15. This kid I know used to work there when I see him I'll ask if Oakleys f*ck around with the oil. What are they charging you total (w/ the Honda oil)?

And silver03TL its a pretty big place on Neptune so they do everything oil, car wash, tires, etc. But they are mostly famous for the car wash.

If you don't want to change the oil yourself that's cool...I don't b/c as sensitive as this car appears to be with it's tranny and other little quirks I refuse to have the dealer try to feed me any kind of BS, God forbid anything should ever go wrong, since they've now done all the maintainence in house. But to have a car wash place do it? Do they even have licensed mechanics? My guess is you paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 for the oil change...$15 for oil, $5-10 filter, $5-10 labor. If you paid even remotely close to that I would have just gone to the dealer...they charge about the same only difference is you have piece of mind that it was done right.

I seriously doubt that Jiffy Lube type places employee licensed mechanics..."certified automobile oil changer"

I was wondering about that... After last oil change at the dealer, I got a Quaker State sticker on my windshield... And they had bunch of bucklets about QS 250000 miles warranty on the counter... Makes me really wonder about "Honda oil"

Anyway, its Mobil 1 for my baby next time.

Jiffy Lube SUCKS....

They stripped the threads on my oil pan on my Integra and then made me pay to have the thing rethreaded. Bastards. I refuse to take my TL there.

Acura costs less for an oil change than J.L. down here in S. Jersey.

(when my sister had my car, she had the oil changed at jiffy lube)
They stripped the threads on my accord's oil pan, rethreaded and used a larger drain bolt.

All without telling me, I only found out when I changed my oil.

They couldn't have made you pay for the repairs when it was their fault. You should have called the cops and told them what happened.

Call a lawyer!

it's sort of a hassle when you have a dropped car and you have to jack it up just to change the oil....

it's worth it when you see the mobil 1 going in....:p
