I'd be leary of Compustar.
Do a search on the web and you'll see that lots of people are beginning to have problems with them. Poorly made, cheap components.
DEI/Clifford has a new model out that has the remote with the status of your car thingee. It looks pretty cool.

I'm going to be getting the Viper 560ESP, it is basically the same as the 550 but it has a pager remote and a status display on the alarm...I like Viper alarms...never really had a problem with them on my Accord and I figure they are the best for the money..My friends have compustar alarms and a lot of them are having problems with it. I don't know it is all on you.

I would agree DEI/Viper/Clifford. Since DEI bought out Clifford a few years ago, the circuitry is the SAME for both. Just make sure you get a component system (none of that built-in relays, shock sensor, and stuff).
I was looking on the Compustar website and it doesn't say it has a "random code generator" for its alarm.
All it takes is some punk with a codegrabber to steal your car. DEI stuff has that feature on all their alarms.
How do I know? I used to install alarms for weekend cash while I was in University. I've installed them all (Crimestopper, Viper, Clifford, Ungo, but no, not Compustar). DEI was by FAR the one with the best circuit design and cleanest to install.
I'd get a SOLID alarm over flashy one anyday.
As for alarm pagers, I used to have one but I found it's quite useless. Sometimes if it goes off, I'm at least a good 5 minutes away from my car. By the time I get there, IF IT'S NOT A FALSE ALARM, the thieves would already be gone. So... I'd just sit there sweating when the pager went off...

"One of the coolest things about Clifford's G4 technology is the ability to plug your Windows PC into the system/accessory chain and run the CliffNet Wizard. CliffNet Wizard allows you to customize and control your Clifford G4 system and accessories with point-and-click ease. It even adds features, such as selection from among 15 different Personalized Siren Sounds, that aren't available through the system's standard PlainView 2 code-protected programming."

Check out the new Viper 790 XV. Just announced less than a month ago. The responder remote is also included with the Python 880 XP and Clifford Matrix RSIII. Not sure what the differences are though...
Read the release:

The new 2 way remote from DEI has an LCD and a little slimmer than the CompuStar SS. It comes with their new Viper 790 XV. Not sure what the realistic range is going to me, but they claim it's 1/4 mile under 'optimal conditions' (read: flat open field with no powerlines for 20 miles...).
Here's the responder link. Their site doesn't list the 790 XV yet.

Well yes it will be over $800 if you get it with Black Jax and other added options but im pretty sure you can get the alarm itself for around 5-600 dollars and installation would run around 200.
