Airbags

So, my car was in another accident yesterday where i ended up hitting the rear end of a car going around 40plus and i hit them dead on, and my airbags still didnt deploy!. I had another accident 4 months ago where a lady hit the side of my car going around 50 and they didnt deploy then, what the heck is up with my airbags, did acura forget to make sure they work or something!!

what the hell?! i'd start with a friendly call to acura, telling them of your experience and how you could be dead right now. possibly get them to give you a little money, or at least free oil changes.

take a look at the sensors in the front of the car. Were they involved in the impact.
The airbags are pretty smart and unless (I think) 2 or the 3 sensors go off, the airbags won't deploy.

In the side impact (btw, 50mph side impact and the car wasn't totaled...do you have the Tank mod) again unless it hit in the right place your side impact bags won't go off.

Yeah and they are expensive as hell to replace after they discharge. Kinda weird they didn't though.

well with the side impact, i was told by acura that the way i was hit was just in the right place to not make them go off, even though basicly the whole front of my car was gone, which i find hard to believe. It didnt get totalled b/c the body shop said it was only 10k to fix, when in the end it was 18k. It should have been totalled. Im not sure about this recent accident if it hit the sensors or not, you would think so since the car is something like 2 or more feet shorter.

Be glad they didnt deploy. A friend of mine was involved in a minor accident with a piece of road debris which hit his front bumper. the impact set off the air bag system, which blew his hands off of the steering wheel (while doing about 50mph) and caused him to crash. needless to say the airbags didnt do squat for the real impact after they deployed the first time. He wasn't hurt that badly due to him wearing his seatbelt, but the '96 Grand Am That he was driving is now a decorative planter in some salvage yard.

You said the magic words "even though basicly the whole front of my car was gone". The front of your car was impacted, thus no side airbag deployment. Had you been t-boned, they would (or should I say "should") have gone off.

air bags ARE NOT supposed to go off with ALL crashes. they very as to when they deploy due to the severity of the crash. they are on a decelerometer meaning the car has to decelerate at a specific rate in order for them to go off.
