Question Airbag question

Was just wondering about this....The airbags that are in the sides of the front seats, do they deploy only when the impact is on the side of the car or do they also deploy if you were to be involved in a front end collision? Of course, I'm talking about an accident that was bad enough where airbags were definitely going to be deployed.

Thanks in advance

Depends. The SRS deployment is governed by a computer unit monitoring a g-force meter. It can sense the severity of an impact and the direction it came from.

So if you were to rear end someone and come to a dead stop going like 50 mph, then the computer would only inflate the front airbags. But if it's a side impact, then it deploys all 4 for maximum protection and a possible secondary crash.

but it all depends on the angle and severity of the crash.

But i did see a air bag go off on a parked car once in autobody class. THAT WAS COOL!!!

The kid was trying to pry the steering wheel cover off with a screwdriver on his car (wanted to see what a air bag looked like) ad teh screw driver shorted teh wires and it deployed! his face was like 8 inches from it when it went off. for teh next 3 weeks it looked like he fought mike tyson every night and LOST!

Bwahahahaha!!! I guess he slept through the part of the lecture where they said "disconnect power first".

owned!!!

While I was at the Integra Type-R Expo in Iowa, everybody was hanging out in the parking lot, getting wasted and doing stupid stuff. One guy offered up his airbag and we shorted it using a car battery. That was cool as shit. But my mom would probably disagree, after rear-ending a Corsica in MY Tahoe back in the days and had a face full of an airbag.

Thanks guys, reason why I was asking was because I was involved in a frontal impact and both airbags did deploy. The car was supposed to be done today (1 month and 2 weeks after the accident) but when the body shop hooked the car up to their diagnostic computer to make sure no codes were being thrown, they got 2 codes for a failed side airbag sensor?!?! We were all scratching our heads wondering why the sensors failed and needed to be replaced when the side airbags didn't deploy.

probably due to the impact, they got damaged. they are simple sensors that in severe enough impacts can and will get damaged due to teh g-forces applied on them

I was in an accident that required airbag deployment and I'm here to tell you that they do their job! It wasn't painful. No burns, no bruises, just my shirt felt like it was fresh from the dryer.
