Hey guys i need some help. a few days ago i noticed that my ac wasnt blowing cold it was maby a little cool and sometimes it will blow nice and ice cold and the it will go back to just cool so i checked the pressure on the low side with the ac on and it looked a little low so i put some more freon in and now the compressor is kicking on an off on and of and it wont stay on like it should so i stopped using the ac and today i tried to turn it back on and it made a squeeling noise like a belt loose not sure what it is ... maby it is a belt. Any ideas?? bad compressor? the thing that gets me is that it fluctuates between cool and ice cold when the compressor was working fine. Also can someone help me with the pressure numbers. what pressure is it supposed to read with the car off and what pressure with the ac on?
Thank You
Any help is appreciated

low pressure running is the first thing we need to know
and high side pressure running
both with AC on
How did you decide it was a little low and how much freon did you add

there are parameters- but varies with temp and other factors
on the low side a ~blue range~ is around 40psi with a 20 lb operating range
(my guage really has blue in the ~cold~ zone of ok pressure)
Testing and filling should be done in the cold of early morning-
with an external fan blowing at the front of the radiator to simulate cooling airflow from driving
I agree it sounds like overfilled- way overfilled
Usually if it needs a top off thats just a few ounces of freon.. with some leak stop in it
Everyone should run the AC at least 15 minutes a month- at one time, to circulate the oil in the freon- keeps seals lubricated and prevents leaks
In winter the defrost setting runs the AC for you

in the evaporator, do not use the freon with the sealant in it! there is an ounce of oil in each one of those cans! the compressor holds one! you could F up your compressor with sealant freon! FYI! good luck. check condenser/fan motor?

you can buy freon by itself or with synthetic additives- or the oil or additive packages seperate...
I was guessing OP had the normal seal leakage from non use- since it was just a little less cold than normal before working on it
Too much oil would be bad- as would too much freon- meaning pressure in the lines
At this point take it to a AC shop and ask them to empty and vac test the system- then refill correctly
