Question Ain't Goin' Whistlin' Dixie

Did the requisite search and found many plausible causes - what do you think? I get this whistling noise from the front of the car. It's not too loud, but definitely there. Sounds wind related. Starts at about 40mph and continues to about 45 mph. From there I no longer hear the offending sound. Thinking it might somehow be related to the numerous cracks I have in my windshield. This has been happening for the last 6-8 months or so, but doesn't seem to be getting worse. What is this heat shield thing everyone talks about? This whole occurence is more perplexing to me than a gay western. Any help would be appreciated...

More than a gay western huh?? Thats alot!

Does the whistling sound like its from the windshield or somewhere up front?

The heat sheilds are on your exhaust in various areas.

Not really sure about the location, but definitely up front. Kind of sounds like it could be the driver's side mirror, but why would that all of a sudden start whistling? Does sound wind related and the only thing that's changed on my car in the last 6-8 months is that I have more battle scars on my shield - that's why I'm thinking somehow the cracks are causes the sound. My sense is that if it was a wheel bearing it wouldn't be so speed sensitive and would probably be getting progressively worse - does this sound right?

Fold your mirrors in and put tape over any cracks (they shouldnt cuase any noise though) Try jacking up the front of the car and geting the wheels spining to see if the noise comes back
