against a GS300?

I have a friend who's dad is selling his GS300 for 19k...it's a 2000 GS300 with 79000 miles on it...him and his freinds are tellingme I should sell my TL and buy the Lex...what does everyone think about that? I like a sporty sedan which I think they both are...my tl has about the same miles...and it is a 2000 TL-P...do you think selling my car to get a GS300 is a reliable deal? I take pleasure in feeling comfortable with the depndabilioty of my car now...opinions?

Thanx!!

AYA

Its a toss up...I personally dont like the GS series, but if it was a SC400 or something, then I would switch. I think the TL looks more sporty than the GS.

I like the GS, you can do so much more to that car. I think the status level is higher too so that's a plus right there.

Yeah, I figured the status would go up...but at this point...I think the TL gets me high enough without people bothering me with asking money questions...I've heard you can hook up a GS pretty well since its based off the supra...

OU Sig:

I agree...I think the tl looks WAY sportier...which is the one reason I want to keep it...but then again, the lexus is a lexus...plus its a toyota...(with no tranny recalls might I add!!!) and its a much cushier ride...i like a cushy ride...but I find more often than not I like to feel the road...it's a nice lexus...but I would have to give up Xenons...his doesn't have em...and I LOVE HID's....don't really wanna go backwards here...but its a lex...man....so tough...lol!

I woudl do the GS300... it'll be a more reliable car any day compared to our TL. Like you said, no tranny recalls either. And yes, it is slower than our TL's.

They are both excellent cars, and each one would be a pleasure to drive, but think of it this way...how is that rear drive Lexus going to fair in PA winters? I guess if you have an SUV or some type of 4WD for the winter it doesn't matter, but if it's going to be your sole commuter, yo may want to consider the benefits of the FWD car.

How much slower is it? Am I gonna get spanked by boy racers? I don't think I remember reading about a sportshift either...so it's a straight auto? I wanted a stick before I got my tl...but I accepted the ss mode as a fun toy to tide me buy til i get another stick..but going back down to auto...I dunno...

Yes straight auto no HID's either. Yes its a Lexus...who cares?!! Its not that big of a deal. The only thing you will gain with the Lexus is a somewhat softer ride, and no real tranny problems - eventhough no car is perfect.

Status level? goldendragon576 give me a break, do you need a car to give you status?

I think the Acura is a very nice car with nice touches all over. The HID's are addictive if you ask me. Plus our car is more sporty.

id stick with the TL, the GS is cool and all, but the GS300 isnt all that fast, and its heavier than the TL since its fatter, cool thing is its RWD, if u like to drift its will be cool, but there wont be a clutch for u to pop so the wheels brake easy.

stick with TL.

My friend has a GS300 and I really like them, I was considering getting one but decided to go with the 03 TL-S...the main reason I didnt, and you should consider this, is if any problems happen to arise with the Lexus the cost to get it fixed will be much more than for an Acura. If that's not a problem for you, then go for it...but i'd say stick with the TL.

I think that a TL-P is not a speed machine anyways. It is more oriented towards comfort. And on the comfort side the Lexus is a better deal. Dont expect to go drag racing on the lexus. Also, the lexus name does have better ting to it. looks wise the TL-P is better and sportier (IMO).

tough call.

I like the speedometer on the GS and the way the steering wheel moves forward back up an down. It is a much smoother ride I knew this girl she had $$$ and took me for a ride in a GS400 that think would go through our NYC roads quick and smooth.

I do agree it is dependable but when it does break down have some $$ ready.

It's not an easy decision how much would you need after you sold your TL if it is not a lot let's say 3-4 grand go for the Lexus cause if you think you tranny dies and you got out of warranty that is how much you will need to spend to fix the tranny from your own pocket.

peace

thats a lot of miles on the lex, check what the book value is, check to see what you can get for your car, if the difference won't kill you, I'd go for it, its a pretty sweet car. See if you can get a test drive before hand and check his maintenance history too, but I'd say a lexus is more reliable than an acura in the long run. Also, dont forget the GS are being re-designed that may bring down th evalue of the GS once the new ones are released.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA there is a recall on the Camery the corrolla and the GS300

The cars suddenly accellerate unconrtollably, HAHAHA stick with the TL, I saw a special on this last week and they actually went through all of the accidents caused by these cars just takin' off, right in the middle of rush hour traffic!!! I think there was one person seriously hurt from this that's what prompted the recall, but most of the accidents they talked about, the driver was like "I was just sitting there with my foot on the brake and.......off I went full speed..."

Stick with the TL, I don't mind the trannie problems now eh guys?

If you are more performance-oriented then stick with the TL cause it is faster and you will feel more at home driving it hard.

But if you are more comfort-oriented then go with the gs300. You will feel like you are driving on cloud nine. There is probably no road noise and you will feel completely isolated from the road and driving experience.

IMO, would I get the gs300 over the TL....hell no!
IMO, would I get the gs400/430 over the TL/TL-S...in a fucking heartbeat!

If you don't have any problems on the TL then stick with what you know. GS3 is a great car but so is the TL. Now if it were a GS4, no question!

Keep your TL. GS300 is a good car but not worth selling your TL to get it. The GS400 on the otherhand, by all means is well worth getting.

I would NOT sell your TL for a GS300, if you are really interested in the GS model I would go find yourself a GS400! Go with that V8 over 300 hp. Now that is worth the trade, fuck the slow GS300

i wouldnt get a gs3. gs4 is a differnt story but with gas prices going up i wouldnt want to put 40$ of gas every time i pump, or find a reason to pump more frequently.

GS 300 can be turboed or supercharged if u want it to go faster. From about 5k-whatever u want to spend.
The car has won comparisons and car of the year etc and even 7 years later is much respected for blending sport and luxury. It is slower than a TL. You get real wood, better leather, dual climate control, optitron gauges, etc. Remember one was a 30k car new and a GS was at least a 40k car new. So it's built differently. Concerning milage, GSs can go 200,000 miles easy.

Just weigh your pros and cons. Check out www.clublexus.com for more GS info.

Thanx everyone!!!

Thanx everyone for all of your input...it definitely made the decision a lot easier...well, looks like you guys will still see me around here...I weighed a lot of the pros and cons...and as i much as I respect the Lexus name, everyone is right. It WILL cost way more to repair...it's NOT a GS400, it does have a little more miles than my TL...and I am DEFINITELY more geared towards performance...ie. I LIKE to feel the road...plush cars are nice, but if I am to use it as a Daily driver...I like to feel the terrain...plus...someone SuperCoupe93 said it best...as my daily driver...in PA weather, a FWD car is definitely more appropriate. The potential for mods is there, but I don't wanna buy a GS for that...I give mad props to those who do, but supin up a Lex isn['t my goal...I saved up for an S2000 this summer, and after I get the body kit, rims, intake and navi for my TL, I'll start workingon the S2000...so I guess i'm set...Thanx again everyone!!!
