Aftermarket Warranty...Do you have one?
How many of you guys have an after market warranty? Is it possible to get one on a 02 TL with 178K? I haven't heard/read much on the subject.

I got an extended warranty at about 93,000 on my 2000 TL, after shelling out big moolah for the transmission at 83,000. It's about $70 a month for two years, for five years or 100,000 miles. It may or may not turn out to be worth the money, but the transmission really made the decision for me - I'd seen too many people on these forums who were on their second or third trannys.
It'll be really difficult, I think, to find someone willing to sell you one at 178,000 miles, though. The cutoff for mine was 100,000 miles, and they gave me a discounted rate since I was the original owner.

have seen tv ads for companies that will cover you up to 250 as its joining limit
ck internet, and ask the service manager at dealer what company has good coverage and works with dealer when a problem occurs
you can get specific coverage--trans and electrical say-- rather than whole car

One thing I've noticed in the fine print is that the US Auto Warranty policy doesn't cover leaking seals, and doesn't cover damage resulting from improperly maintained seals.
Which is just delightful news - NOT! - because my oil pan seal is seeping... it probably got dried out when the car sat for a month and a half getting some major body work about three years ago - the transmission failed a week later too.
And reading the Haynes manual procedure for replacing that particular seal is moderately mind-blowing, as I'm sure the price tag will be.

your oil pan gasket should not leak from sitting--3 years ago!?
maybe the bolts are a bit loose? thats been known to happen from vibration and use on rough roads== pretty much driving on Earth
You have to lower the subfame to replace the pan--several here have done it after running over hidden objects in road,,like raised covers on newly paved street at night as an example
