After market rotors TL/S

Before I do another brake job, anybody had any experience with after market rotors? Who and where do I get them?

I dont have a type s, but i got my AM rotors from iROTORS via ebay, but you can order direct from their webside if you wish. 300 bucks shipped for front and rear cross-drilled and slotted.

I got mine from the dealer under warranty. I don't know what kind it is though. The dealer told me it's ACURA approved replacement rotors. (yeah, right....) Mine looks different than what iROTORS is selling (has gold plating).

How much were they from the dealer?

Type-S Lady & Songoku

Those rotors on Songoku's car looks like the Comptech cross-drilled rotors after you go through the gold color plating. Check out comptechusa site, also those rotors come from Powerstop. They are pretty good from what I hear and they recommend using Metal Master pads with those rotors.

Songoku-Did the dealer you went to for these rotors on the Comptech dealers list?

Thanks! Well I wonder why it cost a little over $2,000 just for the front for the Brembo?

I just installed irotors cross drilled/slottle rotors with Axxis metal master pads. It stopped my warped rotor problem and looks 100x's better. Total ran be around $500, but still cheaper for a huge upgrade and the dealer will charge about the same for stock parts which will probably warp again.

I put on Brembo blanks and Hawk performance pads from tirerack.com for $208, shipped. So far everything has been good, but I've only logged 7k miles since the replacement. Time will tell....

Lady -S, the Brembos are larger rotors and they replace the rotor, pad, caliper, and brake lines. I do not think they are necessary for a TL, unless you have serious mods and performance. The irotors and other aftermarket rotors are stock size and that is why they are cheaper. The TL has a decent size front rotor, so stock size looks very good in my opinion. Makes the wheels look much cleaner!!

O.k. so it isn't necessary to get the crossdrilled/slotted? So buying just another brand rotor that won't warp like the stocks is your only reason for replacing?

Yea the car was driving like $hit, the steering wheel would shake when slowing down and it did not feel that safe, and I like the look of drilled/slotted rotors, they look very nice. I have chrome type-s wheels with the new rotors makes a huge diff. The steering is tight and brakes are smooth. Are you looking to do this????? where are you from??

Yes, at 7500 I had my rotors shaved or whatever they call it. But I don't want to have to do it again and I feel it coming. So I had priced some Brembo's Toursimo or something like that and I started saving for them. I don't want to spend $2300 unless it is absolutely necessary. I don't plan on doing serious mods, just the regular bolt ons. I'm in Tallahassee, Florida.

never mind you have them from the dealer and Cali! did not see that. they look nice and I do not think they will warp as easy. They look aftermarket, maybe comptech design. Should ger some Axxis pads and would be even better. does it drive better??

From what i understand, its the composition of the OEM pad material thats the real problem. Its too hard on the rotor. They changed the composition for 2002 but it still didnt help.

There is a bit of debate on the site on slotted vs. blank. Forgetting the aesthetics for a moment, the slotted or x-drilled dont seem to make much of a difference in daily driving and dont 'warp' any less. I've read from a few people that have had all different types of rotors on their TL that it didnt really make a difference in braking performance. Their advice was to save your money and just get blanks. Now out on the track, the vented rotor might have performance gains on repeated hard braking, but thats not real world driving for 99% of us. Speeding on the freeway doesnt count.

BTW, go here for info about Warping

Lady-S, the pads I have are Axxis Delux Plus, call this guy, his name is David he knows everything about brakes and will help you. # 973-761-5054. I paid $48 for front, and $41 for the rear. They are good pads so far, will keep you posted! good luck..

If you are more agressive pads that bite the rotor better you should get a better stopping distance than stock. The x-drill and or slotted do cool rotors better than stock. So there would be a lower likelyhood of warping them.

Planning on getting irotors, powerstop or powerslot (when they come out) for my TL-S, aftermarket pads (Hawk or Axxis), and SS lines. That should shorten stopping distance and get rid of that mushy pedal feel.

I went with Comptech cross drilled rotors. They are made by prostop.

But I've also read the counter-argument that there is less metal with X-drilled or slotted so there is less material to disipate heat. Also, its been said the X-drilled only vents hot gases to prevent pedal fade and doesnt do anything to cool the rotor itself.

RACINGHART03, you are the Acura Tech, whats your take on this?
