Afraid to touch my TL, but I want a spoiler

Hey guys,

Anyone can call me as weird as I want, but I am freaked out to touch my TL. The only problem with that, I want a spoiler. Do you guys think that if I got a factory style spoiler, a dealer would install for the hourly pay?

PS What do you guys think about also putting in front & back hidden foot well neons and Viper 791 remote start security system?

Spoiler installs are easy - any body shop could do it. I would think most dealers would be more than happy to, especially if it is the same style as the factory spoiler.

Make sure to specify that you want them to properly finish the holes they will have to drill so they don't rust. I could see a cheap shop skimping on something like that.

Hey greygabe....i'm the same way, i want a spoiler but i don't want to touch my car....it's really not that hard to install one. the factory spoiler would be really expensive and the install would be expensive to do too (at the dealer)....i'm currently running a groupbuy for good quality spoilers that are aftermarket but look exactly like stock....there's installation instructions too, it's easy. lemme know. -shawn

If you're scared of putting holes in your TL, maybe consider a rear lip spoiler (eg: M3 or M5). It uses double sided tape rather than holes.

As for the footwell neons, do a search about hardwiring footwell neons. There's a DIY about tapping a wire next to the glovebox so the lights come on with the dome light.

Thanks guys for the quick response,

All the input's are a big help! Thanks Keeena on the dealer tip, I'll remember it. And thanks but no thanks on the spoiller group buy, I gotta place to get a factory-like.

I still wanna hear some more on my lights and stuff, kinda undecided on it.
Also, if anyone knows about >$200 things that really spiif up a second gen TL interior I'm all ears for suggestions.

i agree about the m3/m5 lip spoiler if you dont want to drill the holes for the factory one. plus, thats cheaper and you can do it yourself. still need to get it painted though, since the ones sold @ ebay are unpainted. looking at 40-50 bucks shipped.

the factory style spoiler is also sold on ebay (painted on unpainted) and its a LOT cheaper than buying from dealer (200 something vs 350ish) so if you decide on the factory later you might want to check it out there.

yeah, was never a fan of blue interior lights, or neons anywhere...wouldn't mind a regular colored footwell light.

First of all, this has been my first post and you gotta love that reply time (6 hours with like 9 posts). Thanks so much guys.

Anyawy, I don't see the point in those lips (no offense to the people who have them because I think it looks kinda cool), but they can't effect the car too much acording to the laws of physics. I only get stuff that I can get some result, I'm just paranoid that way.

Also, I don't know why but I jkust like blue neons. I just thought that they'd be cool in an Acura if you couldn't even see the neon stick if you tried to find it. All you would see is blue light in the wells. Very discrete.

Don't worry - you will get peoples opinions on what you want to do instead of HOW to do it. Seems to be a constant theme on many boards. Hooking up the neon should be easy enough. I'm not sure if you should tap into an auto-dimming circuit - not sure if neons can dim (they are not the same as a filament / incandesent bulb). Just find the door trigger lead and have that switch a relay to turn on the neon.

You *should* look into that group buy - the spoiler is very nice and nearly identical to the factory spoiler. The guy sells them to dealers for $200 and then dealers sell them for $500+.

Spoiler is really only for looks unless you spend a lot of time driving over 90. I have one, dealer installed (bought the car used with it on there) and have also driven one without one. No difference in highway handling but I like the way it looks.

factory stylye spoiler

hey guys I have a factory style spoiler that I haven't used its still wrapped up and unopen I'm planning to sell it b/c my tl is looking crappie anyway and I don't think I'm going to install it, so I'm going to sell it. The best offer will get it. I"m looking to sell it to someone in the NYC, NJ, PHilly area only, sorry i'm not going to go through the shipping hassle, besides its safer that way.
thanks,

even at 90+ you gotta remember we have a fwd car. point is, a rear spoiler is designed to push down the rear wheels in rwd cars. thereby, when they are going fast, the wheels stay planted on the pavement ensuring they get good traction and handling. for our cars, like joetroy says, it's all for looks...and additional drag

I think the Tl looks sleeker without a spoiler, with it the back end looks boxy
just my opinion
