AEM V2 vs. CT Icebox
#2
Well, I'll make it easy for you......
The AEM V2 is only out for the CL/TL.. not for the Type-S models. Since you're posting in the Type-S forum, I'm assuming you have a Type-S, which means the V2 is not available for your car, so out of the two you listed... the Comptech Icebox wins by default.
FYI the AEM V2 is supposed to be out later this year (fall/winter), but the date on that keeps changing.... so if you want an intake anytime soon, the Icebox, or a regular CAI like AEM or Injen are your options....

if comptech couldn't figure out a better way to appropriately and safely produce as much hp/tq from a new intake .. then how is AEM gunna do it, considering CT only works on Honda/Acura cars?

If AEM couldn't figure out a better way to appropriately and safely produce more HP/TQ from a new intake, then how is Comptech going to do it considering that AEM has been specializing in Intakes and performance for decades, while Comptech makes a variety of parts.. and this is there first shot at the Intake market for the CL/TL
Sorry, couldn't resist . There could be an argument either way, especially since the Icebox is only about 3-4 HP better then the current AEM which has remained unchanged for sometime, however, the bottom line is the V2 is not out and won't be for a while, so like I said before... Comptech wins by default....

too-shay!
I guess I'm just biased since I bought the Icebox...
also ..
did anyone mention that the ICEBOX is silent vs. the very loud nature of the AEM???
take that into considertion too, as I have.

Type S Lady, Junior bean is talking about the aem V2, which aem is introducing as their new intake not the regular CAI like the one you seem to be confused with. Junior bean, I also had a question about the V2. Ive heard some not great things about the V2, for instance the placement of the air filter is somewhere so that if you hit a puddle, or drive in the rain it will ruin the filter maybe even the intake, but just things that Ive heard, Im trying to verify.]

You're thinking of hydro-lock. that only occurs if your intake is submerged in water. That effect is also why AEM produces the bypass filter. It willprevent hydro-lock in the event the large filter becomes submerged.
I have a CAI on my Bimmer that extends into the bumber area and draws air from a dremeled brake duct. I have driven through plenty of rain storms and have had no negative effect. So I wouldn't worry about it so long as you don't go off-roading in your car or drive in any foot high puddles.

Seriously though.. he's right.... all CAI systems place their filters low.. that's what makes them a CAI... the filter is not in the engine bay. You can purchase the By-Pass filter that unionjack mentioned and you'll be protected. The filter is $45, but it's an insurance policy, especially if you live in a place where you get a decent amount of rain....

Well I know about the bypass valve, but what im aware is that aem recalled the bypass valve cause they are defected and dont work. I was going to by a valve when I buy and CAI this week but I heard that they dont work and thats why they recalled them, but then again Im not sure.

That is true.. however, about a year and a half old. AEM did a recall of the by-pass valves in late 2001, early 2002. They made a slight re-design and re-released them with no problems. Magazines like Sport Compact Car have even tested the by-pass with no problems.

I disagree, I think the CAI intake is pretty loud from the outside! It actually sounds awesome and the first time I heard a CLS with it I was stunned! I was looking for a Mustang GT!
