AEM Short Ram with HOLE!!!

Hey there guys, so I was driving around one day and started to notice that my mileage seemed to be getting worse and worse everyday. I popped open the hood and was surprised to see that the place where I connected the intake to the chassis broke off. Now I have a hole in my AEM intake and have been driving around with raw air being sucked inside for who knows how long. I will contacting AEM and see what happens. Has this happened to anyone else? and why does AEM now only make CAI now?

Happens to many on this board, next time search. Murdaz just recently got a hole in his intake and the best solution is to just use some jb weld and put it back together. Others have access to an aluminum welder, there, you can just get it rewelded. I noticed that with my short ram on in general, gives me really bad gas mileage. I just run the stock airbox now.

AEM usually has this problem also in the 3G side.

numerous stories where i've heard AEM mounting bracket breaking off and leaving a hole on the pipe.

thus..

Injen FTW.

I also suggest you check your motor mounts.

Injen isnt any better than AEM material wise, All they did was find a better mounting location. If you broke a mount your motor is moving a lot, thats why i would suggest checking your motor mounts.

Thanks, I will check on my engine mount right away. Is there anything I should be looking for specifically,i.e. cracks, splits...?

"Mounts" there are 3 motor mounts. Look for leaking, cracking. Have someone put car in drive, hold foot firmly on brake and slowly give it gas, does the motor move around? If so they need to be replaced (these mounts typically last 30-40k, and most are driving on bad mounts)

Isn't there normally a rubber thing you are supposed to put between the two to avoid this happening? Maybe a future solution or preventive medicine...

AEM mounts theirs up hi and with the motor movement there isnt enough play in the rubber mount to allow it to move without putting stress on the CAI

the rubber washer on my AEM CAI that connects to chassis is rusted as hell and I installed it not even a year ago!.. i think when it rains the water runs down the pipe and hits that washer

look up at the front motor mount from under the car
They leak an oily type fluid thats easy to spot if you are looking for it!
the front and rear mounts are fluid filled and some years are vac assisted too!

And do the manual testing as fsttyms1 said - with a friend and a block of wood on each side of the wheel... so the car doesnt go thru the house suddenly

hmmm its hard to say if its a motor mount or just know that AEM screwed up and installed there mount in the wrong place. I have a 08 TL-S and i had that same thing happen to my CAI. I really dont think its a motor mount at all and instead i just went with the AEM V2 and it has fixed all problems.
