Unhappy AEM CAI bracket snapped

Well on top of my tranny going, the bracket that holds my intake in place snaped. Here are some pics.

How the hell does that happen?? Wow! Sorry man, but I dont know maybe a suggestion, couldn't you take it into a muffler shop and ask them to weld the two pieces back together for you? Im sure they can't charge you too much for that.

That is what I will most likely have to do. I called AEM tech support, he said to email him some pictures. I have not heard back from him yet. I was bought a year and a half ago so they proboly will not warranty it. Thanx for the advice.

Whoa ...unless you intentionally try to break that bracket, there should be no way that bracket should have broken. Keep us updated..

AEM customer service is crap.....hard to go thru a reseller for the soft mounts, they wouldn't even sell it to me or find the parts # for them. Better just call them because they never called me back for the parts #, that was 4 months ago.

I just got off the phone with the guy at AEM. He says he got the pictures and has to foward everthing to the warranty guy and then he will call me back. He also told me to make sure I have the receipt, even after I told him it was purchesed in November of 2002. So maybee that means a new CAI for me.....?

When I had fitment issues with mine, the customer rep told me he didn't have time to sit and listen to people whine about fitment problems.

AEM is a piece of sh*t company, in my opinion. My CAI is the first and the last AEM product I will ever buy.

Good luck with yours getting repaired/replaced.

Just go weld that piece. It will probably be stronger than before. Only problem is you'll have to take it out but that's what I would do.

Yea i had the exact same thing happen to me but worse. I have short ram Aem and instead of just the bracket breaking off a part of the intake came of with it! So there was a hole about a Inch in diameter IN MY INTAKE. I was like WTF IS THIS?! I called up the performance shop where i bought it from the said they would call Aem. A week later they say it was a improper install? I was PISSED AS SHIT. aem's site says lifetime warantee so why dont they warantee it?!!! Thats not suppose to happen. I'm never going back to aem again maybe because its american made also. But i got the performance shop to weld it back for 20 bux. You have to find a place that welds alluminum, a muffler shop cant do it, they only do steel or whatever. I breaks like that because of engine movement when you mash on the gas. Everytime you floor it the engine moves back in fort. With the install kit there should of been a rubber piece you're suppose to put between the frame of the car and the intake which takes the pressure off that bracket. I put on the rubber piece and I've had no problem since I thought it wouldn't matter but i guess it does. But for anyone who wants intake dont go aem, bad customer service and help. Hope i helped

Sounds like it WAS an improper install, what do you expect AEM to do? If you drive your car into a wall, do you expect Acura to replace it? :banghead:

I did my own install. The rubber spacer was used. If they don't handle this in a timely fashion I will have it welded. My friend works at a body shop and he said he can fix it in like 15-20 minutes. But its the principle, if it says lifetime warrenty, they better send me a new one. If not I'll make sure nobody I know buys AEM anymore.

Get some JB Weld. Let it sit over night. That thing will never move and it will be much cheaper then getting it welded...

Oy, bad idea. The connection between the pipe and the chassis is the ONLY part that gives. If you tie the pipe down to the frame without any movement allowance, where do you think all that stress will go to? Keep thinking... yep, the the throttle body. :banghead: :banghead:

I would suggest fixing that asap.

I forgot to update this thread. AEM sent me a new intake after about two weeks. They messed up and sent the silver one but I actually like it better. It maches the silver on the engine cover much better than the blue mached my car. AEM's customer service was suprisingly easy to deal with but when I get the 05 I will not buy AEM anymore. Time to try Injen

OHC in Northridge made a stupid assumption that the accord intake would fit... so they got me the Accord V6 CAI not knowing there a whole nother part # for the TL...

I wait a whole month for a pos intake, let alone its the incorrect ONE and they wont refund me!!!

What do ya know.. after a few months of driving the whole tab rips off like yours... except it left a 1 inch hole in my aluminum piping... BAH.

Then i notice that my bypass valve is totally ruined and the rubber is all cracked and no longer sealed air tight... so i threw the bypass valve away, and put on a rubber sleeve + metal ties to cover the 1 inch hole on my intake.

AEM has bad customer service i know... it took me several harassment calls in order to find out the part number on my AEM box was for a 98 accord v6....

i knew i should have gone JDM lol

BTW...

Come to think of it... OHC did the same damn thing w/ my AEM tru power pullies !

They got me the accord v6 ones... let alone it took 2 months to get here...

I take my car to get the pullies installed... one of the pullies dont FIT!!!! Pay my guy to take off the incorrect pullies and put back to the stock ones...

Return the pullies to OHC... they give me a hard time about returning these.

Come back a month later to pick up the right set... pay for installation again.

In the end i waited 3 months, got 2 incorrect parts on 2 different occasions, paid for installation twice, and im left w/ a broken intake and a ruined bypass valve...

Bad experiences w/ local shop and AEM !!!

sorry had to vent ...

OHC motoring is supposedly under new ownership... i hope so...

Their priorities were biased towards how much u spend at their shop.

When i paid in full for these items i was told " 2-3 business days "... 3 months later... and im left w/ a broken accord intake LOL...

hmm i dont know if welding aluminum is a good idea. When mine broke the dealer said that welding it would cause the aluminum to melt. I dono. I just replaced mine and will turn my broken one into a short ram.
