Angry Advice on touching up nicks in rear bumper

Okay, I've had my TL-S for less than 1 month and someone has already bumped into my rear bumper. There were about 4 or 5 nicks where the paint chipped off. I used a little can of Silver Satin touch up paint, but this really doesn't work that well.

Any advice on how to repaint this so it looks right? Don't want to go to the body shop for something this small. Can Acura fix?

I don't even have my tags yet.

I had the same problem. Here's my solution. I first applied the touch up over several applications to fill in the nick. After drying for several days I leveled the touch up paint with 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Use plenty of water and try to restrict the sanding to the touch up area. You may need to reapply paint and repeat the process. You'll end up with a dull but hopefully level surface. Next, you need to get the luster back. Start by applying a product like Mequiars Fine Cut. Follow this by Swirl Remover, polish, and wax. Unless the nicks cover a large area, this should do the trick and most eyes will not pick up on the repair. A more expensive alternative is to call in an on-site auto surface restoration pro. Essentially this an auto paint service on wheels. All dealers use these guys to reconditoned cars for resale. They do wonders for chips and nicks. Call your local Acura for a name. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Doogie20, thanks for the advice. May I ask where you picked up these items?

Thanks again.

Most Auto Supply stores carry Mequiars products although not all have Fine Cut and Swirl Remover. To find a dealer nearby you, go to Meguiars website, www. meguiars.com, and click on dealer locator at the top of the page. Enter your zipcode for their professional products. I found more than a dozen for the Seatlle area. Alternatively, 3-M has a line of products with the same name and function. Walmart carries this line. These are great products to have for removing minor scratches and bonded contaminants. Remember to start with one area or nick to practice your technique. You may also want to get the name of a mobile pro; just in case.

Thanks for the advice Doogie20.

I'll shop prices for a mobil pro, if they are too expensive I'll do it myself.

Thanks again.
