Adding HP to my car
Adding HP to my car
well the car isn't mine, it's my dads. I want to add mods to the car that he wouldn't actually notice, but would feel the additional performance. Is there anything (not too expensive) that I could install into the car to give it an extra 25-40 HP?
And if you know of a place that will install it in Toronto I would really appreciate it.
thanks

The only thing you could add that would give you that power but he wouldn't notice (cosmetically anyway) would be headers. Headers get you around 28-32 additional HP peak. Any other mod like exhaust or a CAI he'll notice b/c of the big change in sound. Not only that, but exhaust only adds 1-3hp and an intake will get you about 8-10hp. You can go the Comptech Icebox route which looks and sounds very close to stock and it will get you around 10-12hp or so.....

OBX headers (if you can find a set) are around $400
Comptech Icebox is around $260
Plus installation costs (Icebox you could probably do yourself... headers should be between $200-$250 depending on costs where you live. For me it was $220)
With both installed you'd be between 290/300 hp at the crank peak.....

sc354, I might stray away from the OBX only because ou said you don't want your dad to notice. Majority of the OBX headers have a slight resonance that if your dad didn't know it was the headers might get nervous and take it to the dealer. Comptech would not have this noise and you could probably get a nice used set for about 600-650 USD.
I agree with JB that the OBXs are awesome but they are do emit that resonance, which could make someone who doesn't know about the headers nervous. If you have the dough get the icebox and the CT headers.

Right now on ebay if you look, obx headers are 300 for the buy now, so if your seriously looking to buy, hit up ebay with a quickness
No offence but if your dad bought an A spec don't you think he might be somewhat of a car enthusiast who might notice the hp gains?
And if you are paying for the mods, maybe he wouldn't object. Perhaps honesty deserves a chance here?
