Acura TL Subwoofer - 2nd Gen

I just recently installed a pioneer avic-700bt in my 2000 Acura TL. I bypassed the EQ with help from your posts (Thanks!) and have already wired in the steering wheel button controls (which was cake by the way). Everything is all setup. The only issue is with the performance of the factory subwoofer. I was wondering if anyone has built an enclosure for the sub to enhance performance? If so, what were your specs and how does it sound?

not enough space to make an enclosure around it without hitting the trunk torsion bar.

if you want to stick with a stealth install then pick up something like the kicker rmb8. the rmb8 is a small sub (midbass) which will sit in the same location as the factory sub. you will have to get an aftermarket amp for it though.

Yeah. I know there is a little bar in that area, but it doesnt look like it would be tough to remove or build around. I was just wondering if someone has tried it and if it made a difference.

thats a free air sub, you may end up ripping that paper thin cone thats its made of. there is nothing to that little sub and you will most likely run into a problem.

i just dont see a point in doing it

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input. Has anyone installed anything other than the kicker subs in the stock setup? What size amp did you use?

yep those are the ones.
i believe you can fit any 8in sub as long as the depth is no more than that kicker is.

if you want to get crazy you could probably even fit a 10in in there as the factory bose is a 9in. youd be the first though.

honestly if you want some thump and to save trunk space you should just go all out and get an uncald4 sub enclosure (OFF TOPIC/Black Market/Group Buys). i actually bought the rmb8 but had a feeling it wouldnt be enough.

They make adapters to do it. Many depend on the radio you are installing

Although I have sold my TL, I heard the guys attempt to upgrade it... and even though he used good components and sealed the box nicely against the factory mounting location, performance was mediocre at best.

He then switched over to a 10" bandpass box with a built-in amplifier, and the difference was staggering.

Dont even waste your time here, sacrifice some trunk space and bring a real sub woofer solution into the car. I've upgraded this location in Thunderbird, SHO Taurus's, BMW, Lexus, etc... but this car is more difficult.

I dare you to find something that puts that deep gut wrenching accurate bass where you want it in this car in a smaller, more affordable package than the Class D amp'd 10" bazooka bass tube.

more like at least 99% of them do , cause every radio manufacture likes to do there own unique coding for any remote

Look at the new jl w0 line. They are meant for trucks but handle alot of power with a minimal amount of required space.
