Acura TL-S vs. Mazda Protege 5
Zoom, zoom, zoom. Don't get excited...I'm not going to compare the 2 cars. I just wanted to get your attention so that I can tell you something I am looking forward to doing.
This evening while at my gas station, I noticed a man fueling up his modified Protege 5. For those of you not familiar with the vehicle, it is that new sport wagon from Mazda. I personally love the look and if I had a dozen or more cars, this one would definitely be in the stable...
This one was lowered with 18 inch wheels. I struck up a conversation with the driver, Craig from Tri-Point Engineering in Canoga Park. In addition to their servicing business, they race Mazda and BMW cars (interesting combo). I asked him if he was pleased with the handling of this lowered Mazda and he told me he was going to change the shocks.
To make a long story short, he told me that he could put my TL-S shock on the dyno and compare it to a Koni and be able to give me an idea of if it would be worth the money to upgrade the shock. He told me that he can explain the handling characteristics of each shock through the use of the dyno.
As a man who likes to get real world information before doing his mods, I was intrigued by this. If you are interested as well with the results of this test, let me know. If this long post bored you to death, feel free to flame the life out of me.
I'll be in his shop later this week...

I don't mind spending a few dollars if I get some useful information. It also will give me a chance to give a little back to the boards.
As Mr. Spock once said, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."
