Post Acura TL-S Alternative.... From Acura...

I don't know if you know this, but the RL is selling for invoice in the north east because they are over-stocked. In addition, there is now a NorthEast ONLY $3000 rebate on the RL non-nav model. that would bring the selling price down to the $34,000 range.... which is what the new TL-S is going for.

OK, I am 57 and drive an RL now which I bought new in 1996. It is a great car but boring. I "think" I want something more sporty. My wife and I drove the TL Type S on Saturday. I liked it but she thought it rode stiff and the seats were hard. I tried to explain to her that the TL was a sporty car and different from RL. She thinks I am nuts wanting to trade the RL for the TL Type S. I am still debating myself. I sure do liket the Type S.

Maybe it's just me, but the TL interior feels nicer. The RL, 'will' be an awesome car... but for now I feel it's still kinda of an inbetween car. Not exactly in the right spot yet. Plus that huge car with stock TL engine... yak!

When the RL comes out with the V-8 and has a much nicer interior (and costs 10g more), then it'll be in it's market.

Why don't you keep the RL, and buy her the TL-S ? So both of you can enjoy the best of both worlds. Just a thought !!

She drives the Pathfinder LE and likes that better than the RL. Besides, I am buying the TL for me.

The $3000 is an incentive that's paid to the dealer. You can squeeze every penny of that from the dealer.
At the current rate, you should have absolutely no problem doing just that.
So, RL is going for invoice minus $3000.
It would drop even more this summer when the dealers are unable to get rid of the RLs. That's when they throw in the holdbacks at well.
The RLs went as low as 32k each last year.
It's a great car, but 34k for a one year new RL is only an ok deal since RL depreciates like hell.
It would be a "good" deal if you plan to keep it for 10 years
If the short TL rear seats (big enough, but unacceptable headroom) is a problem for you, RL is your best bet.
I sat in the back seat for 10 minutes yesterday, and I woke up with a bad neck spasm.
Personally, I don't care about the rear seats. I just like the 2 extra door that CLs don't have.

Hey Comp-Time:

I am 57 and drive a '99 TL. Around here we think the RL is for seniors. I am waiting for my TLS due end March.

Seniors, hum! Now what is your username again? Anyway, good for you. I sat in the Type S again tonight on way home from work. I really like it so am going to get one. I hope they soften up the price a little by May when I plan to buy.

The RL is a nice car but most people looking to by TL Type-S are not thinking about RL. I remember when I was having service done on my TL.This guy was looking around the lot & said the RL was the sport sedan. I had to correct him & say the TL was.
He said I thought the RL was I said the TL is the perfomace sedan. This would be a good buy for some of the old folks not looking for performace.

Cool

Yes, but it's a true luxury vehicle - a lot more luxurious than the TL, certainly not as sporty (by far not as sporty as Type S) , but this is the type of car you don't want to race but rather enjoy a quite relaxing ride.

The RL's are targeted for older buyers who are looking for comfort and luxury (remember in the old days : bigger is better), whereas the TL's are for younger energetic buyers who also require high performance driving. People who buy RL's will not consider the TL's and vice versa, because the cars are in different buying catergories.

Although the RL looks larger on the outside, get the brochures and compare the interior specs. The differences are very small, in fact the TL provides more space in some cases. I went through the TL vs. RL trade last fall and was surprised when I got to the hard numbers. My TL-S is due this week.
