Acura Service told me....bodykit is not good for the car??!!
i went into service..and asked what he thinks about the bodykit for my TL type S...he said...honestly....that I shouldn't get it...cause he said something about....the original mold of the car..will not align correctly due to the kits....or something like that....
did any of you heard about this???
what do you think??

Loving my 08 TLS!
Well, I don't think the bodykit is bad for the car. If it doesn't align correctly, why would it be an OEM underbodykit. My salesguy told me that I shouldn't get the kit because it is a waste of money, but it all narrows down to personal preference. Obviously it is not a neccessity for a kit on the car, but it does make a difference in appearance.

Maybe he wanted you to put the $$ towards services perform by the parts/ service department because they get more $$ for their time than the bodyshop. I could be wrong but I think the body shop installs the body kits and spoilers and the service department does the spring, headers...

Yep--at least in my case, the rear lower skirt does not mount flush all the way around the rear bumper; there is a small but noticeable gap at the bumper corners. I asked the service guy who basically said the same thing you heard--the molds apparently didn't come out all perfect, at least for the rear. OTOH--the front and side skirts mount flush on my car. Makes you wonder how Acura could let this kind of finish slip by...

The guy was probably out of the kits, so he just told you they were bad so he wouldn't have to order one, or something. Dealers do that kind of thing all the time. When I bought my '00 TL, before I picked the car up I called my salesman and told him I was leaning towards getting the nav system. Well, they had the car without the nav on the lot, but the one with nav wasn't going to be in for like 4 weeks (in that color), so he starts just trashing the nav system, saying it was a waste of money, and that the only people he has buy them are real estate agents and salesmen that visit a lot of clients. The real deal was, he wanted to close the sale then, not a month from then.
It all depends on what they are trying to move. If the service guy gets in 10 body kits on the next truck, he will probably be telling you it's the greatest thing, it will give you 50 extra HP, and you should get one right away!

ughh..no..
he has the kits in stock...
he told me....if u install the kits...over time..it will change the car's molding...meaning...the kit won't align correctly with the car...so it'll look weird.....someone here mentioned it too....
he was just being honest to me...and suggested me not to get it...cause he had 2 customers...that he did the kits for..and later on..they complained about it...
just for thought..

Hey, maybe the gentleman who works at Park Avenue Acura, WayneG, could shed some light on the subject. I'd like to hear what he has to say *before* I plunk down my hard-earned dollars!

maybe that guy was suggesting that the oem kit is of poor quality that it's structure will not hold up in the future, causing sagging and misalignment?
maybe?
i say "BAH!" to all that - i love the look so i got it regardless of what happens down the line. and if it might be a structural standpoint, look at the earlier 2nd gens...i'm sure their kits are still holding up after 3 years!

Guys- we have installed many, many body kits on TLs from 99 to 02 and have never had a problem. I personally have them on both my TLs and love them. They are genuine Acura and carry the same warranty as the car. I recommend it with no reservations. If there is is a fitiment problem, its probably from poor install technique, not the part! Enjoy.

Well, out here in California (at least at Acura of Pleasanton) it appears that they can't get the rear body skirt to fit entirely flush to the rear bumper, and the service tech has said that the skirt measurements must have been a bit off when they were produced--my rear skirt does not make a perfectly tight seal/fit to the rear bumper, as there are small gaps evident in the bumper corners (I have mentioned this before in other threads--sorry if any of this is old news to you).
If someone out there still thinks that the rear skirt can fit totally flush and that it's just a matter of install technique, then point me to an Acura dealer in the Bay Area who can adjust it so as to eliminate the unsightly gap.

the gap is definitely there and I think that Acura have tried to add some molding under and between the skirts to align them more properly, but it doesn't help, the gap is still there and quite noticable
I totally agree w/ Wayneg, the parts are OEM, so even though I've installed it myself... I'm not the least bit worried.
