Exclamation Acura Complaints

If you have a problem with your TL, register it at:

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

This is the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration website. If they get enough complaints, they will have it investigated and will contact Honda - this is how the transmission warranty got extended to 7 years/70,000 miles for 2002 TL's.

Really? When was the build date of your 03? so they will extend the warranty to VIN numbers outside of the affected problematic range? As I understood it, only certain 03's with problematic VIN numbers within the problematic VIN range was given the warranty......

mine was made 9/02.
When my tranny went out at 9.8k Acura SWORE there were no problems with
any of the 03's regardless of build date, yeah right.
after much hassle they replaced it as a "goodwill" gesture.

Exactly..you have a early '03 build. But for people like me (Build date: 7/03) .. we aren't covered.

Illtl

Is your transmission acting up? If it is, there is no guarantee that my transmission will be problem free since my build date Dec 2002 on my 2003 TLS is much earlier than your build date of July 2003 and my VIN ID is out of the problematic VIN range. The other day I felt something subtle on the freeway that my 03TLS never did before. It felt as though it was "searching/hunting" for gears for about five seconds. Never felt this before. I tried duplicating it by going on the same freeway again twice, but the 'searching/hunting' did not come back.......

How bad has the resale value of the TL/TL-S been affected by the transmission problems? Does anyone have solid concrete information on the correlation between transmission problems and resale value? Has anyone sold/traded in their TL/TL-S because of the problems with the transmissions either through firsthand experience or because of the 'FEAR' of a transmission failure(eventhough you experienced no problems with the transmission?) If you did traded in/sold it, what make and model, did you get afterwards?

the 03's that are outside of the affected warranty dates, what is different about those tranny compared to the earlier ones? I mean are these patched trannies or what? Is there a newly disigned tranny that takes care of all of our problems?

Seattle Dale,

I wish I knew, I am still searching for the answer to that question. A search through out the forum ended up with mixed results. I have read that the VIN numbers outside of the problematic range have had the patches applied to rectify the problem. On the otherhand, there are a number of owners who have VIN numbers outside of the problematic range that still have problems with the transmission, which leads me to believe that the problem has not been resolved. I am unsure, if a newly designed transmission exists. If anyone knows the answer or can point to an answer please speak up. A month or two ago, on the Acura owners link there was a brief paragraph about CL and TL transmission issues, however, now the paragraph has been removed or I cant find it. All Search on Search Engines show or indicate recalls on MDX and Pilots , but does not mention CL and TL. I have read that MDX and the 2nd gen TL share a similar transmission, if so why are only MDX and Pilots being recalled?..

ya thanks gagetrol, its like they purposely what to keep us all in the dark, & you sure as hell will not get an honest reply from the dealer. Would also like to know if the mdx's & pilots have our same exact trannies. All is i know is acura better get there act together or they will be losing me & my family as a long buyers of acura's, & i'm sure i'm not alone. Lexus are starting to look better all the time.
