Acura CL v. 350Z

Acura CL v. 350Z
Hey guys I need your input.
Since my friend got his 2002 CL-S, he's been smokin my 99TL (stock except for headers). He wants to race my new 350Z and keeps telling me how much he's going to smoke me. I haven't raced him yet because I want to break my 350Z in for the first 500 miles. Last time I looked he had headers and exhaust. (but I'm sure he has air intake and other stuff by now). Still think I have a good chance on him? (going back to manual tran is a btch but love the 6 speed) (damn sportshift got me all mixed up)

Are the new 350Z's based on the Infinti G35 engines? How many horses? With RWD it shouldn't be any match.
Concerning RWD does anyone know why Acura/Honda is slow to adopt RWD? You'd think with their success with the SUV's and S2000's they'd had it in the RL's and TL's five years ago.

I would delay racing until you have a good amount of miles on that VQ engine, At least 3000 if not more.
Once you are ready to race, make sure you know the best rpm clutch drop you can make for optimal jump off the line without spinning the tires too. Once you got this and you perfected your shifting with that Z shifter you should have no problem beating him in a straight line race and also in the twisties.
Sounds like fun.

Here we go again.
It's faster because:
it's got rear wheel drive
more HP
more torque
yadda yadda yadda.
I've heard this over and over about how the SC430 would whip me, or the 330i, last-gen M3, etc.
Well in case you folks missed it, I beat the SC430, two different ones.
So while the Z is technically faster than a stock Type-S, it is too close to call when it comes to a modded Type-S.
Since the Z in reference here is still new, I'll place my odds on the modded Type-S.
Stay tuned as the discussion over on the CL boards is that my next challenge is a G35 or even Z350, or should I say next victim.

Ruf87 what mods do you have on your CL? My dad always tells me that front wheel drive has more control over rear wheel drive, but it also lacks the punch. (I had the discussion way back before I bought the TL cuz I didn't want a front wheel driver car then) (glad he changed my mind tho)

Personally, I prefer rear wheel drive. Better for daily driving and or racing - all the way around.

Just no comparison there. Dont be misled!!

Not too mention it packs a 6sp manual tranny where the SC is auto only. And if the Z-driver can drive, he'll run upper 13s stock.

If upper 13s are possible, where are those numbers.
No being misled here. It's the fact Jack.
Also, do you know what times the SC430 is capable of hitting 60 in? You want to try under 6 seconds.
I've heard this for some many years. All these car mag specialists.
It's why I love going out and whipping up on these "soo very fast cars".

I like my meat . . . fast
Especially when folks think they are going to go out and duplicate those "car rag" results.
Which 99% don't.
Just like that 3.5 V6 "Type-S eating" Altima.
Yep, the last 2 tasted like, uh, chicken. And they weren't even close to being as good of a race as the SC430 was. Blew past the last one that messed with me and whipped him like the jerk he was.
So throw all the "car rag" results you guys want. It's that much more satisfying when they go down.
BTW - the last race between me and the SC430, the SC430 would have had to run a 14.075 to beat me. So it looks like the Z350 will be a pretty good challenge. And if the guy can drive half way decent, then ol Ruf may go down.
But hey, it's all in fun so don't get too wrapped up in all those specs. They don't mean much when you get face to face.

Nissan and their ugly cars. I also personally think the 350Z is ugly. It kinda reminds me of my brown loafers. It kinda looks like a shoe. I saw a brown one the other day, it really looked like a shoe. :p

I have raced a 350Z (dead heat) and a g35 coupe (beat him by less than 1/3 of a car). RWD doesnt make a diff, more HP without launch skills doesnt help either. Both of those car were stock. I have mods (check the sig). I bet a CL-S 6SPD with the same mods would rip the Z a new A-hole
No sig on the tl brd?
Comptech heads & exhaust, AEM CAI, eibach springs, poly engine mount bushings and octain boosting fuel additive

And please don't misunderstand my posts as bashing the Z350. Not at all.
I'm just an old street/strip racer of 25+ year experience, built my own engine, set up my own rearends, etc.
I also used to work at a dealership and still have friends who do.
Most of these tests results are just that. Test results and representations of what these cars are capable of. Many times the actual cars and or test conditions are not representative of the actual car or typical conditions. Yes, some are even "tweaked" so that a manufacturer has some bragging rights.
Bottom-line, your results will vary based on a large number of things. So no two cars will perform exactly alike, and no to drivers break in their cars or drive their cars the same. Way too many variables.
So don't get hung up on all this hubbub and enjoy that nice car.
