Man, some law/regulation must be there to prevent us from buying the car here & selling to relatives/friends/acquaintance there ..

I don't think so, didn't see any information about Inspire. There used to be a law against
importing cars directly from Japan to Taiwan.
It probably has been left, since I saw a lot Lexus and so-called "Japan-imported" cars over there. The good tax for importing cars is 200% in Taiwan, and Taiwanese usually pay double of the price we pay in North America to get the same car. However, believe me, You can still see a lot MB, BMW, and Lexus in Taiwan, especially the capital, Taipei City.

Before WTO, import tax will jack the prices way up even if you’re shipping it for your friends and relatives. Only 3 kinds of status will exempt you from the paying the hefty tax: 1. Returning student with a valid student visa. 2. Returning businessmen/women with written proof of invitation from his/her company 3. Returning diplomatic personnel. On top that of the paper works (proof of ownership, smog and noise pollution, drivers license, car registration…etc) and the shipping fees, the vehicle needs to be previously owned and stay in possession of its original owner in Taiwan for at least 1 year. After all that, one person has a lifetime exemption of ONE vehicle.

Anyone want more information, feel free to contact me.

pip33 pretty much said it all. But few things to add to that is

1) Students MUST have at least finished a university degree to be able to bring a car back.

2) I think the tax will work out to something around 138% At least that's the last time I checked. You pay the tax no matter who you are (except the government. For example the ambassador, or rich ppl who knows them)

3) The car must have been own by the person for over one year before bring back to Taiwan. Then there's another year that you can't sell the car as pip33 mentioned.

So, I guess that sucks. We should feel lucky that cars are cheap here.

Oh, and there was a law that against Japanese import. But I think it was to car with engine greater than 3 leter or something like that. But some people still bring in the Japanese cars made in US to Taiwan before. I think the law is no long enforced.

Oh the worst thing is that any motorbike that is 150cc plus is illegal!!!

So now you might understand why all the asians drive a BMW, MB, Lexus...etc. Because to them, they are cheap.

yeah, cars in taiwan are approximately 2 times as much as cars here. but cars that are imported by retailers rather than factory costs even more. the price of TL in taiwan is $1,830,000, approximately $56000 USD as of today, and the price of a lexus gs300 is $2,100,000, approximately $65000 USD. lexus gs300 was brought in by toyota/lexus factory, and the TL is from a retailer. see how small the price gap is. why would anyone pay such a high price for TL in taiwan?

and they don't have inspire. they have TLs imported strait from here to taiwan. Japanese Inspires are first built here, than shipped to Japan for some finishing touches. don't think people in taiwan need extra shipping costs added to the price.

Post An ACURA 3.2TL is $60000US in Taiwan

Hi, guys:
I checked the price of a TL (made in US)in Taiwan, and it is $1,830,000 Taiwanese Dollor (approximately $60,000 USD). What a ripped off!! The price is the same as a LEXUS RX300.
A RL is only $3,000 USD more. As far as I know, Taiwan has RL (Honda Lagend) and Lexus imported form Japan, but not TL and CL. So some companies import TL and CL from States, and sell them at very high prices for those who want to be sepical!!

Thanks for filling in the blanks

1.The law prohibits any Japanese vehicles with 2000cc or smaller motors being imported. As long as the vehicle’s origin states other then JAPAN, you are good to go, which makes the TL, MDX, CIVICs, ACCORDs…perfectly legal.

2. Taiwanese government just lifted the ban on “oversize” moterbikes. You may import/purchase 600s now. Good luck maneuvering it through the rush hour traffic…

big time mistake. LEGEND is 3.5RL.
The TL is just TL, not inspire because it's imported from US, not Japan.

About HongKong:

although prices are also almost twice as high, they get Skyline, Evo, and more.

Cool

The reason that 3.2TL is so expensive in Taiwan is that "it is an Acura", not Honda.
Honda's image was damaged badly by the SaYnag Industry (The local car/motorcycle company that produces Honda in Taiwan for Honda Motor Co, Japan. Most the Civic and Accord were made locally, but you can ask for a US model, of course you have to pay lot more). You can go to tw.bbs.rec.car, www.auto-online.com.tw, and www.autonet.com.tw (all Chinese only site) for more details . 3.5RL is marketed as Honda Legend not Acura Legend. The 50+ age group people in Taiwan always refer Honda as Civic, regardless the model. The government tax the car by displacement too. the bigger the displacement the more tax you have to pay. Mercedes S-430 is not popular in Taiwan because the price difference between S430 and S500 are so small. Taiwan' s BMW dealer also import the L7.

Holy crap...it seems that everything Japanese is expensive here and everything US is expensive there. In that case I bet a Ford Taurus must cost atleast $1,000,000US in Japan hahahaha
