Accident / replace cleared headlights

Friday, some guy rear ended me and made me hit the guy in front of me. Headlights will need to be replaced but the ones I have now are cleared (done myself). Has anyone been in this situation and did the insurance cover getting them cleared again. I really don't want to go thru clearing them out again myself.

Also, You think the body shop will let me keep the balast and ignitors so I can use them on my fogs?

well when u get ur estimate just tell the body shop that they will have to clear ur headlights and they will put that into the estimate. im sure they wont let you keep your ballasts because they are not damaged. they will just take them out of the broken light and put it in the new one

Since it is a violation of the federal law to clear the headlights, I highly doubt the insurance company will be willing to pay to get that done, or compensate for your time.

that's exactly what i was thinking also. clearing them yourself should take about 1-2 hours max. i did it myself just following instructions i found online. came out perfectly. just add black silicon all around to ensure no fogging.
good luck,
peter.

I hardly think so. I even asked the state vehicel inspector before i cleared them and he said as long as it flashes amber. I've passes inspection the last 2 years w/o issues.

§ 547.325. REFLECTORS REQUIRED. (a) Except as
provided by Subchapter F, a motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, or
pole trailer shall be equipped with at least two red reflectors on
the rear of the vehicle. A red reflector may be included as a part
of a taillamp.
(b) A reflector shall be:
(1) mounted at a height from 15 to 60 inches; and
(2) visible at night at all distances:
(A) from 100 to 600 feet when directly in front of
lawful lower beams of headlamps; or
(B) from 100 to 350 feet when directly in front of
lawful upper beams of headlamps if the vehicle was manufactured or
assembled before January 1, 1972.
Apparently, Texas likes to think that they only need red reflectors in the rear.

NHTSA and Transport Canada disagree, however.

4b Front Side Reflex Reflectors (A) Front and Rear side marker lamps / side Minimum 2 Yellow At front - symmetrical - as far forward as practicable - facing sideward 380-1530 (15-60)
