Accident Pics - I hate 4Runners!

Got into an accident earlier this week. I was sitting at a red light when a 4Runner ass raped me. Either she didn't see the light and tried to swerve, or she was trying to switch lanes to be the first car at the light in the next lane.

Rear Shot:

Rear underside:
I think the frame is bent, but I'm not sure if its just the bumper supports. Hopefully the exhaust and b-pipe will be gone so I can get them replaced. The single 3A tip looks so lonely.

C-pillar:
There's a crease in it, and the door gap got pushed together so the door won't open without some force.

Lastly, this one hurts the most for the symbolism - the destroyed emblems on the trunklid:

My shop and insurance adjuster estimated about $10,400 in damages. Her insurance admitted fault and is gonna come in for an estimate. On the bright side, I think I'm gonna debadge the new trunk completely, get a replacement Comptech exhaust, and maybe get the engine cover/a kit painted at the same time.

However, I dunno if I'm gonna feel safe anymore or if I'm gonna even keep the TL if she gets fixed. Nothing against the TL, but they're gonna have to cut from the C-pillar back and probably have to work on the frame so I dunno if the TL is ever gonna feel the same - driving and safety wise.

Ouch good thing your ok

Cars are designed to be hit and be put back together just as safe sa before, so i wouldnt worry about that 1 bit (if its done by a good certified shop)

Ouch!! I hate SUV's since a lot of the impact is higher that the bumper of most cars. Glad you hear you are ok. No sore neck or anything?

Personally I would try and get out of that vehicle. I don't think it will ever be the same.

Sorry about your car.

She was probably putting on makeup, talking on a cell phone, and sipping on a latte.

yeah, i got raped by a pick up, except not that high in a damage as yours, only 4 g's cheaper. a certified shop put my car back together and looks just as new. all up to you whether you still wanna keep the car or not. in my opinion and experience, since the quarter panel has been pushed in like that, it'll come close to a loss.... your call tho....

I'm glad you're ok.
4runners aren't bad, just the driver, i love them 4runners, use to own one but gave it up for a TL...

Goddamn Mall Runners..

And yes, because of their incompatible bumper heights, they RUIN passenger cars. They are a menace.

I know exactly how you feel.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132793

If it happened today your neck will hurt tomorrow, I promise. Glad to see you are okay for the most part.

This happened in early March and my car doesn't go in the shop until the 18th of this month. I'm gettin her fixed to better than she was, then I'll part her out, and finally selling. I think I can get what I paied, $13,000. I bought her last summer with 80K, now she has 84K.

Yeah, no amount of pulling will save those side panels...they will have to cut and add new ones. Your car is much worse than mine.

I'm surprised that is not totaled.

Actually doesnt look like it was that hard. The truck went above the bumper area and struck non structural panels.

At least u ok. But how come they didnt declare that salvage and pay u book value for it. I personally wouldnt want that car after a hit like that.

it all depends on how much the damage is....u cant just say to scrap it if its only 5k dmg...here in ontario its supose to be like 60 or 70% of the book value of the car to make it salvage..

Thanks for the concern guys... I'm pretty young and I don't feel a thing even after a week so I think I'm ok.

Well I was at a red so I'm not sure how much faster she could be going. I think it was mostly cuz she was in a 4Runner so she went sort of over me. The bumper and supports folding downward and everything else crumbled in. I'm pretty impressed by how well the TL held up - if this were a mini cooper, I'd probably be squished against the A-pillar.

The estimate is $10,400, and with 25k miles (stupid low miles!) on an '03 TLP, the kbb value is between $15k - 20k. Plus its the other insurance company paying for it so I'm not sure if they're willing to pay to salvage it. Anyone know what salvage percentage is for 21st Century (my insurance) and Farmers (theirs)?

oh yeah the other 3A tip was probably jacked by the tow truck driver or sitting someone on 19th Ave in San Francisco.

most ins companies take the ACV (Actual cash value of the car) aka local market retail value and subtract out the salvage value and get a breakeven. if the cost of repairs is above the breakeven, obviously they won't repair it. Local market value is usually established by NADA but can take in ADP and various other sources. You probably won't have access to the salvage value unless a salvage yard will give you that information. However, usually once the cost of repairs exceed 80% the ACV of the car, they will total it.

I would agree, if he was hit in the front, or something around the engine. I got hit in the back as well by an 05 accord and it was no problem getting it fixed and my car rides just as great as before I got hit, and yes I feel safe in it still.

It's amazing how that impact blew your Mugen rear spoiler right off the car (hint, hint). It's also very remarkable how you can even type with as sore as your neck and back must be (another hint). All joking aside were all glad your OK. I work with bodyshops all day for a living and if you go to a good shop your car wiull be better then new. This would also be the correct time to get any thing else you might have touched up or painted. We have guys come to our shop all the time asking if we can paint a spoiler when the car gets paited. Most shops will do it for free or for a small fee because the paint is mixed and being used already. You might want to talk with a lawyer. My guess is that they will settle with you if you agree that there will not be a ton of medical bills down the road. GOOD LUCK !!!!

Post photos of the car once it's completed.

You might be right. I didn't say it won't be the same. For me mentally it won't be the same. If no cutting or bending the frame of the car needed to happen I could probably get over it. I am a perfectionist when it comes to my car.

If the shop does it right it will be the exact same as before. Cars are designed to be taken apart piece by piece now days and that includes the unit body.

Yeah, I'm hoping for a total as well, but I'm not sure how it works. Since the other company only pays for the damages and repairs, I highly doubt that my insurance company will front the rest of the money to total the car especially since it wasn't my fault so they can't really jack up the rates to cover their costs to total the car.

Damage-wise, the right rear quarter of the unibody costs $700 (cheap!) but is gonna take 15 hours of labor. My main concern is the 2 hours listed to repair the frame, which I assume is gonna be weaker since they're hammering it straight again.

I am gonna miss my baby. I miss my baby every time I see another TL on the street. I have this urge to pour out a quart of oil onto the sidewalk for my homey. What pisses me off most is I was gonna head out to the Bay Area meet in SF (I live in South SF, 2 miles from the meet location!) in April, but now I don't know if I'm gonna go anymore.
