Unhappy Accident - need info from people who had it before.

Hi,

I had an accident this last saturday where I bumped the person in front of me. Should've known that the car won't stop as fast after a wash.

The damage is pretty minor to my eyes. There does not seem to be any leaking so hopefully the radiator is okay. The hood seems to be locked to the body, but I tied it down to the bumper just for safety.

I just want to get an idea on how much the repair costs from people on this board who had this unfortunate thing happened to them in the past. How much did it cost to fix it? Did the try to fix the hood or replace the whole thing?

I appreciate any input I can get. I'm going to have it estimated at 2 places this friday and meet the adjuster the following thursday. Unfortunately the deductible is 1000 and the insurance is due for renewal in 2 months, I guess I can expect a rate hike from Geico.

I've included several pictures of the damage below.

Thanks in advance,

TL_Cy

Thanks for your info.

On the 1.5-2K one, was the damage pretty similar to what I have or is it a bit better/worse?

im going to guess between 1500-2500k (depends on what hidden damage there is, like whats broken that we cant see) it looks like the fenders are ok? also it looks like teh headlights are ok? so it looks like basicly just a hood and possibly a bumper cover? (that looks like it could be repaired) so it may very well be on the lower end of the repair est.that i gave. hows the plastic and radaiator support under the hood look? damaged? you may beable to lower the prices if you dont mind used parts. then most of the cost will be labor in the refinishing of the paint (they will have to respray the whole front end to blend the paint

thats not a light hit. I say pay your deductible, it will be cheaper that way. It looks to me like your frame might of shifted, you can tell by your headlights. (i hope not)

g00d luck.

??? Not the frame of the car--it has no frame...

I haven't written an estimate in years, but you need to know the labor rate is at least $35/hr for body, $50 mechanical and $20 for paint...You need a hood for sure, grill/light frames, align the lights, bumper cover looks too gouged for repair, possible impact to the fender needing alignment and subtle repair. Refinishing/paint time on silver is higher...

Just a quick quess is about $1,200 for parts (unless you can find good used ones), probably 18 hours for body labor, 7 for paint/prep labor...maybe an 2 hours for inspection and minor mechanical repair...I'd bet it'll be around $3k and take 4-5 days to repair...

I had a similar accident (mine was a bit worse). The original estimate was 2k and it ended up taking 17 days and $4500. Insurance paid for (and hasn't gone up yet... knock on wood.

Best of luck!

i doubt there is any structural damage, maybe need a new upper radiator support, but thats most likly it. in minor rearends like that most damage is occured in the hood. and since teh hood isnt that bad the damage probably isnt that bad.
r10apple didi a pretty good break down, with the limited info we have from those pics we are estimating the best we can

The hood needs to be replaced, dont think you can bang that back out right. The bumper seems like it can be repaired. If not that is another $500 or so... the hood is like $500 to $700 from what I recall.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the input!

Like I said in my initial post, it doesn't look like there's much damage to surrounding parts of the hood, but I could and may be very well wrong about that.

I'll know more the extent of the damage when I go to the shop this friday and hopefully get good estimates.

I guess I can kiss my $1000 (deductible) good bye right now.
