AC Filter & 30k Service
Who had there AC Filter changed at the 30k service? I had the 30k service done at the dealer for $420. The next day I noticed that the AC smelled a little musty, so I checked the dealer invoice for the 30k service. The AC filter replacement was not listed. So I called the dealer and asked why the AC filter was not replaced. They told me that Acura doesnt recommend replacing it at this time. I told them that Acura not only recommends it, but they clearly state in writing in the service manual that it should be replaced. They told me they would check on it and call me back. Then they called me back and left a message stating that I needed to make a regular appointment and that it would cost $23 for the element and $70 for labor. WTF? Does this seem right?

The dealer is in business to make money, and the more oil changes, a/c filter changes, etc. they do, the more they make. So of course the dealer will tell you that you need to have more services done at sooner intervals than you actually need. Just keep that in mind when dealing with dealers.

I've done it on several accords, but never on a TL, but the placement of the filter should be the same. You have to disassemble your glove box, it's behind there. Try getting a Helms manual or something and try to do as much work on your car as you can......I used to work at a dealership and I can tell you that after working there I would never let ANYBODY touch my car that I didn't know. Try to do stuff yourself, saves tons of money and you know the person who did it cared! Services are the biggest rip off there is, the majority of them are glorified oil changes with a brake "check".
