About to buy a 2003 TL-S from Pohanka Acura in VA, is it a good deal?
I'm on the verge of buying a 2003 TL-S w/o NAV for $29,850 + Tax ($902.72), $40 DMV Tags, $50 Dealer Tags, and $249 Processing fee for an out the door price of $31,090 from Pohanka Acura in Northern Virginia.
Is this relatively competitive? The only thing I am upset about is that they are only willing to give me $500 for my 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse (16v DOHC). I was told that the car is worth around $2000 trade-in, and $500 seems like a lowball offer.
Also, do you think $800 is worthwhile for a spoiler, or would I be better off with an aftermarket spoiler for the TL-S ? Thanks for any help that can be provided. I haven't done much research lately on the TL-S because I really thought I was going to go with the 2003 Maxima ... (please no flaming on my car choices). After test driving both however, the TL-S feels a lot more fun, especially with the Sport-Shift. Thanks so much for your input! (The color I was looking at is the new Anthracite Metallic... I just wish I could get it with the lighter interior!)
BTW- I'm sorry if this is a repeated topic a lot, I think that prices tend to vary from state to state, so I was hoping people in this area would have a good idea of what I should pay on a 2003 TL-S. Thanks again!

I think that's pretty good, cause that'a about what I paid last year in May ($29,800)... same thing (but 2002) w/o Navi, Type-S. I did get the "lojack" though, that was about $600. I delt with a fleet manager instead of a salesperson... which I think it's better.

Careful with Pohanka. I dropped by once while shopping for a TL-S and after 3 hours of talks and test driving, they told me I had to buy a blue one to get the best deal. Next they picked one out for me and when I tried to change it for another blue one, they said no. After negotiations, I found out why. They were trying to sell me the one with 110 miles on it. Beware the salesman.

Thanks for the info! Right now Pohanka only has 1 Anthracite Metallic so I'm assuming thats the one he was planning on selling me. I'm not going to buy for another 3 weeks to wait for some bills to clear up ... So who knows what colors they'll have by then. I'll be wary though!

Car price and the other stuff (plates, etc., etc., etc.) sounds about right (I think you can lower the cost of the car a bit more, thought... try to get the price to about 29,300). I highly recommend you get this car with the NAVI, thought.
$800 for spoiler is WAAAY to high. I paid $690 for mine when I bought the car new from the dealer a couple of months ago. Try to see if you can get the dealer to lower the price on the spoiler (& yes, better to get it from the dealer, unless you are confident getting it from this web site and installing it yourself. Or just get it from this site and have a body shop install it. You will save a good amount of $$$).
Yes, you are totally getting "ripped" off with the trade-in price for your Eclipse. Can't you sell it off on your own?
Good luck in your decisions!

Hmm, maybe if I go with the factory installed spoiler, I can get a price somewhere close to what I've already got.
I am planning on trying to sell my Eclipse to Carmax and see what I can get for it ... If they offer me somewhere closer to the $2000 trade-in value that Kelley Blue Book quotes me on their website then I'll probably just sell it to them... Thats what the dealer even said since he thought $500 was a pretty lowball offer from his own dealership.

Give Rosenthal Acura in Rockville, MD a call. They gave me a pretty good deal two months ago. I bought a TL-S with navi, the proce was $31540. They charged me $565 for the spoiler. I traded in a 1990 Integra GS. Blue book was $2000 and they gave me $1500. If you want a name and a phone number just ask. I did all the negotiating via email since I had already driven the car. You can also check their inventory via the web, that's how I found mine.

That is a good price. Try to sell your car on your own v. the $500 trade-in. Also, make sure you hold them to the price with the trade-in. They may try to screw you and jack the price up since they won't be making any money on your trade-in.
I paid $29,850 (plus tax, title & license) for mine (2K2 ABP TL-S no navi).

Thanks kcroberge ... I'll definitely have to check them out. I know there is a Rosenthal in Gaithersburg too which isn't too far from me.

I bought from Pohanka. 2002 NBP TL-S and had 8 miles on it when I drove it out. I paid 31,600 out the door with a spoiler and moonroof visor. I think your price is fair. You might be able to squeeze out a couple hundred more.

I bought by 2002 SSM TL-S at Rosenthal last Oct.
29,851.00 Car
1,492.55 Tax(5%)
157.00 Tags & Processing Fee
31,500.55 Total Out the Door Price
The processing fee at Pohanka seems high.

LiQice: I'm from the Baltimore area, Rockville/Gaithersburg is all the same to me. Sorry for any confusion. I believe there is only one Rosenthal, in Gaithersburg.

kcroberge,
Ohh ok! I see, no problem Thanks again for the tip, I'll definitely be in contact with Rosenthal Acura before I make my purchase.

don't know what shape your eclipse is in, but it looks like you are about to leave $2000 bucks on the table. The $500 is not enough to give you much of a break on the taxes so if I were you I would not trade the car but sell it outright...

Damn!
$29,800 sounds pretty good. Last June, I walked out of the Pohanka showroom when they would not drop below $32,500 for a new 2002 White Diamond Pearl/parchment TL-S with Navi. I went over to Radley Acura in Alexandria and they beat the Pohanka price, but only by $500. I think the wholesale price of the navi is $1,500, so if you take that off my car's price, I paid $30,500, which is still a bit more than the price you have gotten.
I added the spoiler for $650, and they told me that it is covered by the base warranty. If you bought the spoiler elsewhere, of course it would not be covered. May not matter that much, but you never know.
Just make sure that price is for the car you want, not for the car they need to sell.

Try Tischer in Laurel...
I paid 32109 w/ nav, included was spoiler (installed), wheel locks, sunroof shield, mud flaps. This was a year ago and the salesman that I dealt with is know longer there. But you maybe able to come up with something. And CarMax is real good about trade-ins. I got $10,000 for my I30t with 105,000 miles on it. I was shocked. Put the whole check as downpayment on my TL-S. I am going back to them when I get rid of the Type S and Look at the G35 coupe. Good Luck.

chevy chase acura
This place just opened up but it's great for sweet deals. I got a 2003 tl-s w/wheel locks, floor mats and cargo net for 29,400. Out the door was 31,006. It was a fairly pleasant first car buying experience for me. Plus I'm getting free car washes for a year. I got mudflaps installed for $130. Service dept. has been great so far, only two minor issues. If you're looking, try and go with salesperson Byron, he said he'd front my first oil change if I get him business.
Hope this helps.

Asked for some price quotes from Radley Acura, Rosenthal Acura, and Chevy Chase Acura.
Radley gave me a price of $30,602 base, $676 for the spoiler, and $83.10 for the visor plus tax, tags, and processing.
Rosenthal gave me a price of $29,900 base, $566 for the spoiler, and $66 for the visor both installed (the Internet Sales consultant claimed those prices were his cost, which sounds about right) plus tax and tags (but no processing fee!)
Chevy Chase unfortunately did not want to deal prices through e-mail and wanted me to call them.
I like the deal Rosenthal offered me though, they also said the deal was good for any color! I'll definitely be considering Rosenthal Acura in a few weeks when I actually goto buy the car but I'll probably give Pohanka the chance to pricematch Rosenthal since Pohanka is closer to my house than Rosenthal.
If anyone else has any comments, experience, or price quotes with these dealerships, please feel free to post them! Thanks

Figured I'd bump up my message incase anyone else was planning on buying a TL-S in VA, or if anyone else had any other experiences to share.
