Im sure they dont want your car there either~

What happens is a mistake is made in assembly or a bad part wasnt caught.
You get the trans all installed in the car and bam--it wont shift right
So out it comes again, take it apart- figure out whats wrong
put together install and bam back out it comes

If its a first time rebuild on TL trans for that tech.. its gonna take a few attempts,, in most cases
as if your lawyer can make them work faster lol
that will not encourage them!!

Acura gives you free loaner car, I was driving new TL for 7 days. To me it was a big value, otherwise I would have to rent a car, which would be 40*50=280, imagine if aamco wants it for 2 weeks, its $560....

acura hooks you up with a loaner car `when they can` thats true
and their prices absorb that 25-35$ a day value

Enterprise gives discount rates when you car is in the shop.

Well, hopefully you got your issues resolved with your tranny from aamco. I just got mine back. And an experience with them was not so good. But got upgraded warranty and brake job done. Now she's in the process of being. I'm being upgraded to 3rd gen TL. She's WDP and has mods already for her. Just need to get the rear aspec kit I got painted and put on.

The AA rebuilding facility finished the 2nd rebuild and it failed dyno again so they didn't send it back for installation yet. The builder which is said to specialize in Acura / Honda trans said a bearing isn't seating correctly and wobblying around in the case. They aren't sure of the cause and are considering replacing the case as well. Hopefully they get the issue ironed out soon.

Don't mean to sound sarcastic, but this is the type of BS that is expected from AAMCO. meanwhile you wait and pay for your own rental. So all of sudden the picture painted by the salesman is not so pretty. I've seen numerous threads of people going through AAMCO, at first they were all excited, but in the end they end up spending the same they would pay at Acura dealer (plus or minus few hundred bucks) and go through a lot more aggravation and wasted time.
Only your dealer knows the best how to replace a transmission, they've done 1000s of them, but AAMCO does so many different types of transmissions and their mechanics are not the brightest, so they learn on the job for most part.
The first choice should obviously be a dealer, second choice (if money is an issue, and its understandable), you should go to local transmission shop that is not affiliated with any chain, and owned privately. I just found out that there are tons of them, you just shop around and mostly talk to them, you can tell a lot by how much they know about our cars.

i just got my trans rebuilt and i got a steal of a price i only paid $2000 and i got it done from a private transmission repair shop thats done alot of work on hondas they actually get a oddyssey or accord every week almost. they also do work for some nearby honda and acura dealerships and some other dealers

they also gave me 2 year warranty. aamco was asking way too much and i was thinking that i probably wont keep the car for too long anyways. i didnt
wanna spend close to 4 grand to fix the car if i was gonna have to spend that much to fix the tranny then i was going to do 6 speed swap.

luckily i ended up finding the private shop and going there. and my car shifts like perfect again they also used the updated clutch packs and im very happy with my rebuild

big corp stores are at the mercy of their masters--its major bs

acura dealers dont get inside the trans at all- they only diagnose failure and reason for failure-that helps the rebuild shop know what to throw away when it arrives-
corp has contracts with several sites around the country to rebuild warranty returned parts from alternators to transmissions
As a result the trans shop does a LOT of these and knows how to assemble them correctly--for the most part
any complex device assembled by humans has a chance of bad part slipped thru inspection,, or bad assembler,, was there with a hangover,, the day after payday

I suggest getting quotes from local owned shops then speak with the service and parts managers at dealer about a price match of 2500 2800 usd
parts dept takes the big hit on profit,,, so you have to schmooze them...a gift ice cream bars or donuts work well~

transmission unit rebuild is very important, but so is installation. Acura dealers by now are so used to replacing these transmissions, that they can do then in 7-8 hours with their eyes closed.

One year ago my dealer quoted me $3200 plus tax. this is the price before discount, after going back and forth I only ended up paying $1000. Anyway, the truth is that even if $3200 was the best they can do i'd still take it. I see people paying close to $3K for AAMCO, and it makes no sense whatsover. The whole point to go outside the dealer is to save BIG, when you only saving $200 its not worth it. $2K is a good reason not to go to a dealer, but $3K+ just go to the dealer!

the book time to remove and reinstall a TL trans is about 4 hours

the tech often removes the trans the night before the replacement is expected to arrive, then its only 2.5 hours to install as soon as its there = you have the car back before 3pm

I picked the car up today. It runs great. Feels like it gained 10hp and there are many fewer vibrations and a smoother quieter idle.

The AA manager and shop foreman took it for a long test drive so the ECM was already partially retrained when I got it.

The manager said that the rebuilders had to machine the case to get the bad bearing to seat properly.

It's nice to be back in my car after so long.

There's a slight smell from the new paint curing on the transmission. Besides that the car passed the 50 miles of test drive excellently
