Post 99TL Owners - What are we going to do next?

My 99TL friends, we are coming up on our cars being 3 years old now. However not much has changed, except for the Type S, but even so, the look of the car is still overall the same.

How much longer are you going to hold out until your next car? I almost did not have the patience and wanted to trade in my 99 for a new Type S, but I think I can wait now.

What will be your next car if you plan to buy in 1-2 more years? I'd like a 2003 TL Type S (hopefully with more changes) or a revamped Lexus ES300 or RX300.

It's eating away at me, but it will soon be time to get a new car as we are all feeling now.

I'm looking forward to the time when I can give the wife my '01 TL and get something sportier for myself.

I like the car a lot, but I miss my RX-7 convertible at times. I'd like a nice Bimmer next, and depending on what I'm doing for a living at the time I'll be looking at: 540i, Z3 3.0, M Roadster, last-gen M3 or maybe a 330ci. I'd also consider a Lex: maybe a GS 400/430, or last-gen (non-convertible) SC400.

My thought is that my next car should be less of a compromise of sport/luxury and lean more towards the sport end of the equation. I really miss how that RX handled, and the wind in my hair...

Hey Gomez,

I like the way you think! Just make sure to get your sportier car while you still have hair! HA!

I like the Lexus GS430, I think that is my dream car for now as well as the BMW 540i. I think your Maxda RX-7 is coming back into the model line up, same as the Nissan Z is too.

But if you are ready to buy in 1-2 years, we will see much changes even from Acura. I just saw the new Infinity I35 and that is going to be a hot car too along with Lexus's answer in the new ES300. Competition is keen, and so many choices, I don't know if I can wait any longer ;-)

Well, my lease isn't up until Feb '03, so I have some time to think about it and see what comes out. I will be saving my pennies, so I can either lease again, or buy. A close friend sells Mercedes, but I don't think I can afford what I want/like from them.

I am looking forward to the new RL, but right now love the Q45. I used to have a two-seater turbo rocket, but now I need and want large, cushy luxury. The TL is good for now, but I want bigger and plusher. I guess I don't share the enthusiasm of many here for the engine mods. Don't get me wrong, power is good, but I like bells & whistles, and comfy cozy. I am only 26, but I guess I am an old fart to many.

TLWIZ,

27 here, turning 28 and trying to deal with it. But I am thinking like you too, larger interior, fully loaded, the more toys the better. When you get it fully loaded, there is less you have to do to enhance the car, but that is an old guy talking ;-). Cars are always status symbols, so we want the next latest and greatest luxury brand to impress, family, friends and clients. We all have to admit that in one sense! LOL!

I know I will keep mine, but if my faincee (most likely wife then) wants it, I will give it to her. She loves it now and hopefully it will still be in great condition.

I haven't decided for me though. I won't be able to get a roadster becuase I will still need my future family to grow into it. If i like the TL I could go for it again.

If not, and I am making a decent living, I think I will look into a full luxury mobile. Maybe an RL or a Q45, an MB C-Class or E-class or push for a loaded 5-series.

If I am making a great living, I will step up into maybe a 7-series, an MB S-class or POSSIBLY an A8.
Man, I love that car.

I'm sorry but I am going to keep mine for a few more years. Especially since all the modding I have done to it. Then I will give it to my wife. She loves my TL.
About my next new car. The economy isn't that great right now so we'll see. Also, I have to see where I am at in a few years, $$$ wise of course. But I am looking at the latest and newest TL-S (2004/05), GS430, M5.
Then again if I am really rich in a few years then I am going all out and go for pure luxury (750iL, S600, S8, new V8 RL, Q45). I can't wait because there are so many choices out there.

I'm not doing too much to my 99' TL, because I'm planning to buy the 2003 TLS. This is because I can't afford a 2002 TLS now. Hopefully they will put all windows on touch up/down and one touch sunroof open/close. My plans are to buy the 03' TLS and powered up to over 400 HP. If money permits (stock market) I would definitely get the new infinity Q45. It looks awesome and only $65,000 loaded. Better than 740, s500 or cl500. But is very unlikely. Whatever I do with my 99' TL. I will always be proud of my TL. We have shared many exciting moments together. Plus a couple of tickets.

My next car will liekly end up being an Acura MDX. Being that I'm planning to keep my 99TL for another 2 years, I think that family may take priority by then. Otherwise, a 540 would definitely be one of the top candidates.

Since I already have a Roadster, I can stay pretty practical for my TL replacement. I would definitely recommend NOT just having a roadster though...as fun as it is, it is definitely not practical.

I think I will get rid of mine next summer. I can't decide if I want to get something in the sport/luxury category, like a 330xi or a S4, or if I want something a little more luxurios, a used A6 4.2. I know the A6 is a little big, but I love the look of it. I change mind on a daily basis. Sometimes I think I should just keep my TL and get a Type R to go along with it. I am only 22 so I have a long road ahead of me. Hopefully paved with lots of nice cars.

I should have leased my car, since at least every 3 years you could have a different one. I grow impatient with my 99TL as much as I love it. It is starting to look old compared to what is out there. I think mods may hold me off a bit, but that won't be enough and besides have to save that money for the next car too.

2002 will be a huge year for new models from all the different makers, so if I can hold out until at least 2003, then maybe I can figure out what to do.

I think I'll be keeping mine for a few more years. I drive around the city and the extra power available in a TL-S isn't gonna help me all that much.

please bear with me on this post cuz I got some issues.

First off, when I bought my 99TL Nav, i was a kid kid. however, the end result was feeling catapulted ahead by decades. Reason being, as i drove all the bimmers (540i), benzs (s-class, e55 amg), new Q45's, lexus LSs, i started to realize that there was not a half A$$ difference between these cars to warrant the expenidture of tens of thousands of dollars on one of them. My TL might have only adjusted 8 ways, instead of 16, 4 speeds instead of 5, only one auto down window instead of 4, not so cushy seats as possible (get a friggin loveseat if ur into that), X square feet of space compared to X+20 sq ft, etc. My car does have big wheels, a long body and enough space to fit real people. Sounds like a s-class or a Q45. Maybe I simply don't understand why people would plop down that much money to steer a boat around the asphalt. Are you guys chasing the little triangle benz symbol on the hood or the rear heated seats? what is it exactly that would make you spend 70k for a car similiar to the one you already have? Do you know what a poorer family could do with your extra 70k? I'm not a Robin Hood or anything, but we shouldn't spend needlessly should we while others are without?
Another conclusion drawn after driving around is that a sedan or a "long car" will never be like a "small car. therefore, there are only three types of cars. small, large and SUV. Since SUV's are for power crazed, fuel wasting... j/k. I figure if we have a sedan and a roadster, that should pretty much complete the circle of life. room for fun and for family practicality.

I'm keeping my baby for as long as i can keep it. Next car is gonna be a 2002 Supercharged s2000.

just saying try not to be wasteful if you don't HAVE to be...

You can afford a nicer car than you think - www.texas-cars.com is a good place. I looked at the E430 yesterday and it was CHERRY. They often get a load of 5-series Bimmers in as well, and sometimes 7-series. jags are their biggest sellers, though.

I was surprised to find out paople in Texas were driving TL's and now I am even more amazed... they drive Jaguars as well...
I always thought it was a requirement to drive a pickup truck if you live in Texas... I thought cowboys would be driving Fords not Jags...

Yea Grishulia, those of us who don't have the pleasure of riding a horse are forced to drive a luxury car. In Texas you have to have 10 oil wells and 100 cows or more before you're allowed to ride your horse on a public road.

So, how do you get your TL through the turnstile in the subway stations?

It's a guy thing, it's a status thing, it's I want the latest and the greatest for my money thing. This goes the sae

We all aspire to something better as we get older. During College, I had my Ford Probe GT and heck if I will be driving that now, 5 years later because I felt it was a great car (by the way it was just OK).

Our tastes always change and we all have dream cars in mind, so when we buy a car, we think practical thoughts of course, but you really to buy something that gets you excited that is a head turner, especially for the women!

You have to enjoy life when you are young. That is the best part about being young too.

By the way I love my TL, but I don't plan to be driving one the rest of my life. Thanks god for Lexus and BMW :-)

Cool

Three cars that I have picked out of todays lineup... my lease is up in Sep '02...

1. BMW 5-Series 540i Sport Wagon 4dr (4.4L 8Cyl 5A) - hopefully they'll put a 6-speed in there...
2. Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320 AWD 4dr Wagon (3.2L 6Cyl 5A) - hopefully they'll put the 4.3L V8, I doubt they'll put a manual in MB...
3. Audi allroad quattro AWD 4dr Wagon (2.7L 6Cyl Turbo 6M) - maybe a 4.2L V8 with 6-speed manual...

...than I'd be laughing at all those poor suckers driving TL's...
