99 TL Front end Clunking

I wanted to post this information for those like me that was unable to locate the source of my clunking going on. I was told to replace the upper control arms, sway-bar end links and sway bar bushing. I did replace those parts myself and still had the problem. I did not even think to look at this but the radius rod right side lost the nut and of course the bushings were missing. Total labor and parts including a front end alignment $161.00. It is a joy to drive this car again in silence!

Thanks man - do you have a pic of where it is on the car? I took a look without turning the wheel and didn't see it. Does it connect to the wheel hub?

Thanks

I don't have a picture and I really haven't looked where it is connected. It should be pretty obvious to see the rod if you get under the car.

So what kept the right wheel from backing into the fender when you stepped on the brake?

That was one of the problems when hard braking the right front tire rubbed the inner fender at the rear (I thought I had a brake issue as I did the front brakes also). This tire sat further back than the left front as a result of the radius rod nut coming apart.

jo3lo22 - Good luck, if you have already replaced end-links which is the usual suspect than look at the radius rod nuts and ensure that they are there and are tight.

Better check the driveshaft seals and CV joints on that side as well as they would be pulled out and in as the wheel moved back and forth. They may be damaged.

Ouch - the good news if any is that you found the source of the problem. It's always money however.
