99 tl. comptech icebox... too loud!?

i installed the icebox today on my 99 TL and once we got all done.. i think it is pretty loud!

i dont know if its installed wrong or not.. but if any of u guys have a 99 tl with the icebox let me know how ur intake sounds!

from what i heard it should be pretty quiet but WOT is crazy loud..
i never had an intake on my car so sorry for this n00b question.

I have a '99 and I installed a CT Icebox. It makes no noise except at WOT, then it's loud, but not what I'd call 'crazy loud'.

I've had mine ever since it came out and it is not loud at all. Even at WOT in VTEC, it isn't as loud as I used to have a short ram intake.

Icebox should sound pretty close to stock. It's a bit louder during WOT. Maybe you installed it wrong??

how could it be installed wrong? im the one who helped install it on the car and i don't see how anything could be wrong. the thing that gave us the hardest time was the bracket that u bolt to the box and the frame. when we did that the box sat too high and the hood couldn't close, so we took it out and theres nothing holding the box to the body. any input on this?

i hate thoose useless coolant lines! :argh:

ok... maybe the loud noise is coming from the box banging on the frame... ??

it is no lie that when you put on an aftermarket intake on these 3.2VTEC engines that they scream like a V8 when you punch it hard - the Icebox lets out slightly less noise than a "real" CAI, but not much less at all. So just get used to it if you want to keep the intake

I have a '99 and did not have this problem. Did you make the hole on the front of the Ice Box (the hole that looks like a half moon) larger so it fits around the back of the headlights as it should?

everything seems fine..
all the hoses are connected right..
the snorkle looking thing is still connected..
the install felt a little tight and im not sure if the box is sitting in the right spot.. seems a little further away from the light maybe thats the problem?

that is just the sound of the engine breathing - you should ride in another car with an intake (these are normal intake sounds). you will also get a whooosh sound when you turn the car off.

I posted this in my review of how my install went. I had to square off the bottom of the moon shaped hole so that I could get the top of the Icebox connected to the bottom AND have the Icebox attached to the inner fender.

I found out about having to do this from other posts here on AZ. I think it applies only to '99s.

that could be one reason why its loud since the box isnt completly shut or isnt sitting right
thanks

I ended up putting the top on the IceBox and fitting it in the opening without the filter in it, without attaching it to the inner fender or bolted to the bottom just to make sure everything fit as it should. CT should include this information in their instructions.

fuckin comptech and their weird shit. i think the half moon shape has to be enlarged and that should solve the loud sucking sound.

Humming noise at idle is not normal. Where's it coming from?

it actually is normal...I have it in my car when I put my intake on. The '99 and I think all the TLPs have a second small intake resonator close too the throttle body - there was a thread about this before, but anyway, when I took that off, I had a humming noise at idle - therefore it is still there when I have the intake.

i guess the WOT sound is normal.. sounds crazy but i know there is nothing wrong with the install.. i just have this annoying HUMMING sound

i dremelled the hole bigger for the half moon so it fits by the light and secured the box down with the screws..

the hum has nothing to do with the icebox (if its the same noise I am talking about). You can take off the icebox and have nothing on the throttle body, and you will still hear that hum...just comes from inside the engine, and with the stock setup, the resonators cancel that noise - because I had that noise when I had the stock airbox on after I took out that small second intake resonator

I know its annoying, but you will get used to it - kinda funny when people look over at you at a light thinking what the hell is that noise...
