After getting my 2002 TL I've gotten a lot more interested in these cars and I'm thinking of buying another for a project. I want some input on whether this is worth the money or not.

Im looking at a 1999 Model with 315k in immaculate condition seats look great, paint has no peel, and engine is strong and feels pretty powerful with no major leaks. The downside is the tranny downshifts and goes into limp mode. The car was driven 100 miles like this from an auction and shifted normal until it threw a code and it went into limp mode. When I drove it all the gears seemed to be there cause I could put it in all the gears and floor it and it wouldn't slip. Although it would randomly jerk around and downshift when I would let my foot off the gas.

like I said perfect condition but might need a possible Trans.

Just looking for opinions and if the trans issue could possible be fixed with a solenoid cleaning

 

Yes potentially, clean it and see. It's not a limp mode per se, it's just no longer shifting to high gears due to bad hydraulic pressure or solenoids clogged up

 

When I first bought my 99 TL, it shifted like pure shit! It would bang so hard going into 1st gear that the wheels would spin, it slipped like shit going into 2nd and don't even get me started on the 3-4 shift. I thought the trans was done. The solenoid that sits under the battery was bent up and it was not pumping correctly, went to the scrap yard and bought another and cleaned it before I put it in. Its been shifting perfectly ever since, and that was nearly 7k miles ago!
