Hi,

I'm gathering a list of things that need to be done with the 105k service. In addition to what's in the owners manual, I see lots of people replaced their tension belt and some sort of pulley. Is this really required? What are the signs that this needs to be replaced.

I noticed recently when I am idling with my foot on the brake, I can hear a little whistle from the engine (could be a belt or something). It's very slight and not too annoying. It will go away if i rev 2-300 RPMs from Idle. Could this be the tension belt?

Also, does anyone know a good mechanic in the Queens/Long Island area who does good work at reasonable prices?

I'll be doing :
Timing belt
Water pump
Coolant change
Brake fluid change
Alignment
Tire Rotation
Possibly motor mounts (though i'm not sure which one needs to be replaced).

have you tried looking at the diy 105 thread or the sponsored sales thread with 105 package kit for 295$

you need the timing belt tensioner and its roller/idler pulley!!!!
failure of either part later is the same as breaking the belt = engine destruction in the amount of 3000$$$+++++++
Might be ok today but in 6 months ptttttt

good idea to do ps tensioner now- its easy to reach when all apart
possible ac tensioner--those go out

have tech figure out noise, could be anything

have you gotten the recall for 99s on egr port done?
ck with acura 1 800 382 2238x5 if not certain, that cleaning is needed every 75kmiles by everyone

ps fluid/system flush is due every 60
brake fluid every year, every 2 years

front motor mount most common to fail, then pass side as it takes extra load.
tech should pre-ck those so you can order parts at discount from our sponsors

 

ck the Regions section for local area ziner meets-
find info there from members in that area on local techs to do the job

I replaced my air filter just now and thought I'd check the engine movement when pressing the gas while in Reverse/Neutral.

You can also hear that whistling sound that I mentioned above when I switch to drive before revving the engine.

It looks pretty clear to me that I need new mounts. Which one do you think it is? The front mount? I'm not sure how to check the side mount. I have pics of it if that would help with the diagnosis.

 

You can also see/hear the thud the car makes when switching to reverse. It's really hard when the engine/tranny is cold but gets better when warm.

i can tell you your rear motor mount is shot, as well as the front. When you did a reverse test, the rear of the engine rose too high, so did front mount in d5 test. there is too much movement, and the thud going into reverse is also an indication that the rear mount is shot. i had the same problems. you can replace the mounts, and add Ingalls Stiffy engine tq damper to hold the engine in place. Stiffy etd has worked wonder in holding my engine in place, i have it set to a pretty stiff setting too.

motor mount in our cars are a pain, they are so inadequate. its a poor design, but a lot of front wheel drive cars face similar problems due to fact you have to mount the engine like that.

also that whistling could be a vac leak

 

the broken front and rear mounts will cause a vac leak you cant find~
those are the expensive ones--shop our sponsoring dealers and get the best deal- mention acurazine and say you are cking for best price among our sponsors
ask your local dealer if they will match those offers
retail 120-150 each depending on markup

pass side mount will likely be broken as well- its only 50 bucks retail and plain old rubber style, not fluid filled vac boosted system
the side mount gets removed as part of the 105- so you benifit on labor there
front isnt that bad diy or shop 1.5 hours

 

done a 3 qt trans fluid change in the last 50kmiles?

Ya may wanna try looking under the local "Regions" area sub-forums for a mechanic in your area.

Otherwise, check with your neighbors and friends for a recommendation. Most any foreign specialty repair shop or independently owned automotive shop will have skilled mechanics to help you with your problems.
