99 Acura TL P1456
Hello everyone.. I have been driving the car for 2 weeks now.. runs nice.. Well today I just started to get n the highway and the CEL came on.. I went to get it checked and p1456 Evaporative Emissions Control System Leakage Fuel Tank code came up.. Well I just started with the cheapest option first (gas cap).. Does this happen alot on our cars?? Is this code more times then not the gas cap? I have one a major tuneup (the works). I only use 93 octane..
Please help!!!!!!

After replacing the gas cap, reset the CEL and see if the code comes back again.

I agree. And while you are at it, if you are buying one from a local parts store rather than OEM, make sure the rubber seal in there doesn't come out of its groove or else you'll throw the same code. I had an issue like this with a cap I bought from AutoZone. Threw a code for it and when I went to investigate, the whole seal was sticking out from the cap. Lined the new cap with WD-40 and it seated properly and no more code. And make sure it clicks at least 3 times when you install it, too.

I have a 2003 TL-S and had the same problem back in November. After checking the gas cap & resetting the CEL, the light came back on a few days later. The Acura dealer confirmed it was the charcoal canister & solenoid valve you see in this diagram for your 99 TL (items #5 & #8) which was replaced by my Acura dealer. If you lookup the same parts for the 03 TL-S they are virtually the same.

These items start to fail on our cars due to age and mileage. This took care of the problem for me.

I noticed the Evap system takes a while to show its ready, keep checking it daily.

Yea evap can get tricky, Smoke test is the way to go for leaks but if no leaks found then a stuck valve might be the issue. If you know how to test them a test light and wiring diagram are your best friends.
Have not had an issue with the evap system on my TL but just a noisy ticking solenoid in the front which I still haven't replaced since theres no CEL for it.
I did however fix one in a Chevy Tahoe that the vent valve was stuck in the closed position and made the fuel tank swell up (dangerous) and all it took was a diagram and test light to determine if it needed to be replaced.

Yeah, the P1456 evap code is normally an easy fix. But the dreaded P1457 code will require more effort trouble-shooting the evap system.
