Smile '99 3.2 TL: How to install new EGR w/ pipe kit?

I'm a new owner to a 99 3.2 TL. My car is throwing the EGR code, and I've researched on this site that this is fairly common do to the dirty ports.

I've looked in the FAQ, and have found a link to how to clean the 99 EGR ports, but it requires a paid log on username.

Further, I can't seem to find any info on how to install the EGR kit w/ the pipe (from acura dealer, includes EGR/gasket/pipe). I've seen tool kits for sale that indicate that I need to do some drilling, but I don't know where, how deep, what size bit etc...

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to install this new EGR kit and how to clean the 99 ports? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

The first place to check will always be the DIY thread:
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/new-official-2nd-gen-tl-diy-thread-706083/

Here's a thread that details how to clean your EGR valve (ignore everything that has to do with the ThermoBlok spacers):
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/diy-thermoblok-spacers-install-egr-cleaning-615644/

Also, don't bother installing the kit. It doesn't really do anything.

Great, so I'll just clean the intake manifold/ports as described above, and install the new EGR valve and I should be good to go?

Thanks!

You don't need to install anything new. All you need to do is get a hangar and poke through the port hole. Just thoroughly clean the port and the whole intake manifold. You could really use a good cleaner. The valve itself rarely has any problems. However, expect the port to be clogged and pretty filthy.

MOST importantly, dry the crap out of the intake manifold. Leave it out in the sun overnight. Don't put it back on even if there's a drop of water on it.

I agree- leave it out in the sun overnight~

seriously- all you need is 3 cans of carb cleaner, a wire coat hanger
a new TB to manifold gasket, a new IACV cover gasket, for sure
EGR valve to manifold gasket (possible) and you are ready to go

(Fries= is there an egr to manifold gasket or is it reuseable?)

the drilling bs was to install a smooth sleeve liner to cut down on the problem but it doesnt fix it!!
approx every 75k miles - less on single egr port 99s- that system needs a full decarbonizing/exhaust crud buildup removal, on the workbench

see the many pics of plugged egr ports to understand

rarely is the actual valve at fault- just clean and lube its arm, and of course the ports underneath where it mounts

codes are clues,, not diagnosis!!
Best to report any codes found and describe what the car is actually doing-
then we can point you in the right direction- based on real life experience

Is acura still honoring the recall on 99s? was there a time limit on that one?
call 1 800 382 2238x5 with VIN
register as owner and ask if any OPEN recalls- and was egr recall performed
then you have the smooth thing in the port and just need the basic cleaning we all have to do
note- diy to remove manifold- clean and install is under 2 hours- at a very casual careful pace
PLUS drying time of manifold!!!!
