99 3.2 tl Catalytic converter/ EGR
Hello, I have a 99 3.2 TL with 205K. I love the car as it still performs well. I need to get an inspection except I have a CEL. The codes indicate an O-2 sensor and a problem with the cat. I am told, and have read that the problem is with the EGR port and all i have to do ias to clean it. I would like to take care of this myself in order to save a little money. I dont want to spend too much on a car with over 200k miles on it. Problem is, I have no idea where to start or what to do. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Thanks,

you could also unhook the battery to clear the code before you go in for the inspection. then you can clean out the EGR port, intake manafold and throttle body later.
PM me if you have any specific questions about this - I have done it 4 or 5 times on my car over the past 8 years

muffler shops will test the cat for you- usually free
there is an electrical test for the O2 sensors but at this mileage I would replace the front sensor for sure
be aware the rear sensor- after cat- tells if the cat is working right
so you may have bad O2 sensors and a good cat
Does the car smell lean (eye buring tart smell) or rich at the tailpipes?
what codes exactly did you find?
does your state do smog test, or code reads or just a pure visual?

That's a howto on '99 EGR. Torque is necessary when securing the bolts on the IM. Don't forget that part.
