Cool 99-01 Headlights compared to 02-03 Headlights

Is there a significant difference between the two models? I noticed that on the 99-01 models they have some type of shield protecting the HID low beam?

Here is a photo of the 99-01 models:

Like I see a shield but when I look at the 02-03 model:

I can see just the HID bulb and not a shield. Does that affect the beam of the light? or is it just a design difference. Because I like how the 02-03 can you see the bulb but the 99-01 you can't.

I don't know what you're asking by "is there a difference?". It's a complete re-design.

Are you just talking about the shield? The 02-03 has the octagon reflector in the middle to get rid of the glare and reflect the light.

Like I see in the 02-03 you can actually see the HID bulb itself and its surrounded by the reflector lens, but in the 99-01 you cannot see the HID bulb at all its like a shield is blocking me from seeing the HID bulb unlike the 02-03.

You know what I think you just answered my question probably because I do see a small octagon reflector in the middle of the HID housing. Maybe that is what I'm trying to say because the 99-01 has the big shield which I cannot see inside the housing.

yea. the newer lights have a reflector, the older lights have a diffusor.

there isnt a difference in beam pattern because the reflector is made for a certain type of HID bulb
and the diffusor is made for a different type of HID bulb, as long as you use the correct bulb, you will have the correct light output.

no the 99-01s does not have clear lens, the 02-03 its clear but what you see its not the bulb. That thing in the center is like a cover because its illegal to see the headlight bulb itself, that would pretty much be high beams in your face.

So I know now the difference between the two models. So a diffuser is what is shielding the HID bulb and a little octogon cover on the HID in the 02-03 models.

I kinda like the 02-03 design though, because you can actually see the reflector housing where as in the 99-01, you can't its just the diffuser is blocking.

^There isn't a point it was just me posting a thread to see what the difference was and now I know the difference. I just thought that the 02-03 were brighter considering the HID bulb is only being covered up by a little octagon thing to prevent glare and you can see the whole housing. It's confusing to explain but I now know the difference between the two models.

That was my point.

Well, I did a 02-03 conversion on my '99 so I can tell you the newer headlights light up the road much better.

@jjashaa

Simple search would of been easier but I got my answer to this question within a few posts, thanks to the Acurazine community.

@---@cur@-TL

That's freaking awesome. But doesn't the conversion require a new hood and bumper, fenders and a bunch of other stuff?

I'm definitely looking into a wrecked 02-03 TL now. I always wanted that front end. So with me doing the conversion I would also have fog lights, right? So is that easy to add to the 99.

The 99-01 and the 02-03 headlights look pretty much the same just the high beam housing is more circle figured then the 99-01 high beam housing.

Good luck with that. You'll also need to purchase a hood, fenders, front bumper, and a few other parts to make the conversion. Headlights alone will be worthless.

the 02-03 are bigger in size, not directly swappable
