The Infiniti G20 is real slow. The TL will blow it away. If you were talking 2.5 TL then maybe it would be closer but it wouldn't be close with the 3.2.

G20 is very slow, and also consistently rated as a "chick's car."

Don't worry about it. The G20t is very slow. Therefore go out and kick his ass with your TL.

I dont know how fast the G20T is (test times), but dont down size it cause it has less displacement, that means nothing. Look at a GS-R integra it is a 4 cylinder and it would walk all over a 1st gen TL. But I have a feeling that it wont be that bad of a race considering the fact that the 1st Gen. 3.2's run a quarter mile of 16.5, or at least thats what an old Motor trend issue tested. But, as I said before I dont know how fast the G20t is and you may even spank it, good luck and I hope that you do.

Well, G20 are slow in stock.. It's the same engine as the Nissan SE-R, but weight alot heavier.... I had my 96SER which ran mid13s all day long, due to the weight, but once its on highway, no torque, and most V^ do pull away! But since G20 are alot heavier, my friend had the same mod, but he can only ran 14.9.... Hehe, I would say G20 are not fast, but older SERs are not slow....

BTW, why HOnda/Acura guys alwyas talk like they are fastest car in the world.... like "kick their ass", "spank them hard", "whipped his ass", "slow like hell", "blow them away", etc.... Maybe I am too sensitive, but don't other cars should receive some kind of respect too?

I mean, we have Acuras dun mean that we are all that, even a Metro owner should respect some respects too, cuz they also pay money to buy the car, not like Metro dun cost anything....

Not to be mean, but hope we don't turned into those other Honda/Acura kids who think they are all that... I am a kid too, but I do respect all other cars, and don't just go out and spank, whipped, kick others ass!

To put things in perspective, the G20 is slower than a civic EX.

The G20 Deserves no respect, IMO...To pay $25,000 for a car that struggles to 60 mph in almost 9 seconds is a disappointment...they put the wrong engine in an otherwise clean sharp design.

g20s are slow stock, but you have to know that they are 4cyl. but they DO contain the same engine as the japanese Silvia, only n/a. the sr20de is a potent motor, very few and small difference between the jdm version and the usdm version (ex: compression, oil squirter, cam sprocket, etc.). you could run mid to low 13s all day long in the car with street tires if you slap on a turbo kit. overal price would still be cheaper than the 3.2tl. but you sacrifice alot of space and luxury. this is just my thoughts though.

I have a 98 I30 with the 190HP motor and a 99 TL. The I30's motor is silky smooth and powerful, but the TL is quicker. The G20 although is lighter, is more underpowered. Even with the weight diff, 225 hp vs the G20's 160?, no match.

Question

Hey IS300, I if you read this I was curious as to how much HP the Silvia-turbo motor has stock and what you could run if you swapped it into a 240sx?? I raced a kid that just swapped it in his 240 and I was only pulled 2 cars to 90mph in my 2000 TL. All I have is intake and I know he has an exhaust (at least). He said that he paid $8000 for the engine and it looked pretty sad from what I saw. Just wanted to know what you thought?

Overall cost would be less but who is going to buy a tricked out car for all that money. At least with a stock TL, the value will always remain the same as all other TL's. Also, the TL will be under warranty. Sometimes it's smarter to by a factory hotrod and pay up front than to try to spend the money after the fact and lose out on factory support and resale value. I don't know about you, but my money tree is not that big.

I read about a 240sx which they say is the same as the S-14 chassis of the Silvia. They took it and swapped engines. because the stock 240sx engine is the same as the truck engine...so the mag said...anyhows they took the silvia engine(smaller displacement) and put it in...turbo charged it and got something like 340hp out of it!!!

I think almost 9 is being generous. I have seen times for the car over 9 secs. I agree though, its a shame a "touring" car is soo underpowered. Everyone praises its suspension, but you need some power to appreciate it a little more. Fortunately for some though Jim Wolf has something to pep up the engine to a more respectable output for what the car is marketed as. Can you say Boost???

stock jdm sr20det puts out 250hp fromt he 2.0L. the reason he prob didnt pull on you is because of your flatter torque curve and hp. most 4cyl have alot of top end. suspension also plays an important role i launch/drag, etc. the US 240sx does not have the same suspension as the jdm version silvia. as you stated, he only pulled 2 cars from you. but also, 90% of the deciding factor of a race is on the driver's skills. i think TLs are extremely nice and luxury car, something that a 240sx will never obtain. but than again, TLs loose out on the sporty performance aspect of a RWD and does not have as big of an aftermarket performance avail.
btw, stock silvias will pull low 14s STOCK, with a good driver.

well, once a person is into performance that big they dont really care for resale value. they are very passionate about cars.

yes, the 240sx stock motor (ka24de) are truck motors indeed. but alot of enthusiast likes them. first reason being the torque. secondly the ka24's motor is iron block which will sustain alot more power without having to be sleeved.

Also, do you think that $8000 for the engine is a little expensive, I did. When I raced him I thought that i was going to loose even more then I did. Also, are most of those engines reliable?? On his bumper right above the exhaust tip, it is as black as my car and I know he washes it on a regular. So I assumed that he was burning oil, but he just got the motor like 2 weeks prior to the race. Just curious seeing as how you know a good amount on Nissans.

the motors are extremely reliable. as for the bumper, is he using a dtm tip or running without cat? that could be a problem. the reason the motor costs so much is becaus its JDM. its potential are amazing though.
