97 n/a toyota Supra?

my friend wants to race me with his all stock non-turbo 5spd manual supra. i was wondering what is the best point to shift on my car? should i ask for a rolling start since i cant launch? like 20mph? i did a search here and noticed that i should gate shift, but i don't want to unless i get that rolling start. does my car redline when left at d5? didn't pay attention the couple times i've done it( i'm still on break in miles.)

be careful on a rolling start that the car doesn't stay in second. Make sure you practice and can get into first when you hit it or you will not be as fast as you could be.

dont turn your break-in miles into breaking miles, gate shiftings for the pros leave it in D5.

Ummm, you're thinking of the twin turbo Supras.

A N/A Supra only has 220hp, and 210 ft-lbs.

The TL Type S should be a fairly good match for the N/A Supra (assuming its stock). If the kid knows how to drive well, it should be able to get mid to high 6's on the 0-60, and low to mid 15s on the 1/4 mile. The TL Type S puts down numbers of around low to mid 6's 0-60 and high 14s to low 15s for the 1/4 mile.

Best way to race him if you're used to launching the car is to just do it from a dead stop and use SportShift mode if you're not used to doing the gate shifting. I've found that launching around 1500-2000rpms (by power braking) gives the car a bit of an extra push at first without breaking loose the ****ty stock wheels too much. I don't recommend power braking your car too often, and especially not at high rpms.

If your car isn't broken in yet, I'd wait until you have at least 1000 miles before you run the kid. But it should be a pretty damn good race, especially if you're both stock.

If you can't drive and he can, he may take you in any range...If you get a decent start. you should win if it truly is stock...
