I want to change my factory xenons to 8000K. DO i need to buy a whole new system, or can i use my facotry ballasts, and just chagne the bulb to an 8000K bulb? If you cna just change the facotry bulb, will it give a different effect than if i was to use a whole new system, or be the same thing basically? plesae help me as i want to change them soon..because i have found a good deal.

I haven't seen 8000K bulbs yet, but if you can get it, you can replace the bulb only without replacing ballast or ignitor.

I spoke with Jon at Autolites about doing this and he told me you need different ballasts and ignitors for the 8000K bulbs. The highest you can go with with the factory equipment is 6000K. The 8000K's are too purple anyway, your gonna lose ALOT of light output. I would go with 6000K. If you want to be sure give him a call and tell him what year your car is.

I guess it all depends on the headlight. I've seen pics that they look almost violet and some pics they look as blue as superwhites.

All I know is that the output of the 8000K HIDs are really minimal, plus the cops will have a field day with you since it looks more purplish.

I will only go up to the 6000K HIDs.

The only direct replacement bulbs you can get are 6000K Philips Ultinon's. They look very purple, not blue. They are so purple they make the factory bulbs look halogen. The only thing is that you lose a little light output. Its not too bad though so dont worry about it. If you're a little bit handy you can install them yourself. They are the same exact bulb as factory so you dont have to modify anything. Just swap the old ones with the new. Also, those bulbs for $70 are DEFINITELY not HID. They're probably just PIAA superwhite bulbs. Dont get those.

For $70 --- those would be the High Beam Bulbs which are Halogen -- 6K replacement bulbs for our low beam 35Watt HID's are around $290 I think...
