Wow, weird coincedence. I hit 7500 miles today so my maintenance required light went on and stayed on. I know how to turn it off but I was actually considering making an appointment to get the ride looked at at the dealership.

What did you get for your 70 bucks other than a fancy oil change?

Basically its an oil change, chassis lube, inspection and tire rotation. The guy said my air filter was really dirty so he cleaned it.

For that money they didn't throw in a car wash/waxing? I'm going to call around in my area, see what they offer and at what price. Thanks for the info.

Yeah they threw that in but I told them not to wash it. Word of advice, never let the dealer wash the car. I did let them vacuum mine though

Why not let him wash the car? Will he scratch it?

Thanks for posting guys. I have 7328 on mine right now so the 7500 mile servicing is just around the corner. Just curious, why is it a bad idea to let them wash the car while theyr'e at it?

First off the stuff that they use will probably strip off all the wax or polish. Second they use the some towels over and over again. Imagine there was just a bit of dirt on those towels. Can you say swirl marks.

Yup, I was victim to re-applying my klasse. Their soap stripped it right off And, they leave a lot of water spots.

of course they didnt do the tire rotation and im pretty sure my rotors are warping/warped. dammit.

I let Weir Canyon Acura wash my car when I get service. They do a pretty good job there and their soap didn't strip my wax (Zaino). No observable swirl marks either. I'd say let them give you a wash next time you're in there.

Yeah but you don't know where they keep thay shamois in between the washes. PLus after having washed and dried so many cars, that shamois is probably quite dirty anyway. And what about the wash mitt? It is probably full of grit. I doubt they buy a new wash mitt before washing each car.

they did a crap job when i had my integra couple years ago. since i got my TL from them, i havent let them touch it once for a wash.

why not? because they just dont give a damn. it's not like it's their car, or they get paid extra or even tipped for it. its a routine thing that the acura guy would rather not be doing. the quicker he gets it done, the happier he'll be.

sorry, but i dont want that kind of person washing/scratching/swirling/waterspotting my ride.

$70???? I paid something like $140. I thought it was a complete waste of money. I went to the dealer for an oil change, and walked out paying almost $200 total. The service guy went over my some chart with me that showed me that he checked my fluids and that my brake pads were wearing normally.

To top it off, I was talking to their "parts" people. I asked them if the installed springs, and they looked at me like I was speaking another language. The guy had NO idea about any after market parts. He said he'd "heard of Comptech", but thought they only made parts for Civics.

Needless to say, I won't be going back to that dealer for service ever again!

come on guys...! whats wrong with ya'll

unless you absolutely have no time to do the job urself, you can go to a quick lube shop instead and let them take care of the exact same lube job for around $20...! Hell, WalMart does a special for $19.88 which includes the lube job and vacuum the interior, and fill all fluids...!!!! while its there, they can rotate ur tires...!!!

geeeeeeeez, ya'll are wasting ur money...

take Austin519 as an example. he got iriduim denso plugs and even though he was told by the service dept at our local acura dealership that they would install them for free, he drove all the way to round rock so that i could help him do it himself....u know what thats called? pride in doing ur own work.

If you have purchased aftermarket rims and/or tires at some point after purchasing your car, its probably not even time for a rotation so it came down to an oil change...

Wow...is that how much 7500 mile services cost?!

I guess i'm lucky that one of my best friends is a certified Honda Tech...and does these things for me out of his garage :p
He offered to install my headers and sways for free...but being a friend and knowing that he's a certified professional at what he does...I "tipped" him $100...which I find is still a steal

Well it is all about strategy! There is a Acura dealer in Houston that gives two years of free service with every new car. They also BTW have the worst rep. for service because they have so may cars on service all the time.

So when I was about to finish the deal on my car I threw that little bit of info at the dealer where I bought my car from, who BTW has excellent service.

At first they said they couldn't do it for the price I was buying my car for. So I said OK BYE. Then they suddenly changed thier minds. Amazing how that works huh.

Very interesting, I am actually going this Sat to Wayne Acura to get my 7,500 mile service, gonna run me $120 for the same thing.

I guess they spend an hour or so to rotate those damn tires to get those prices. :wow:

For all you guys paying more than 70 or 80 bucks: you're getting ripped off...go find another dealer. As for Systek its not really pride in doing your own work, its more like I'm afraid I'll **** something up. I'd rather let certified techs do it.

you're either crazy or brainwashed...there is no talent needed to change the oil, spark plugs or lube ur chassis, much less top off the fluids and rotate the tires.:wow:

so if u can justify paying even $60 for something like this, and u make more than $60 in 2 hrs urself...ur getting ripped off cause it would take a maximum of 2 hrs of ur life to do the 7500 mile service they do for you.

austin 519 can vouch for this statement

Speaking of certified techs...that doesnt always mean much...certified hardware computer techs are a joke for the most part. as for mechanics, well, lets just say there is a guy whos a certified volvo mechanic that i wouldnt allow to do anything to my car w/out my supervision....

Let me actually build on this statement... anyone who is actually paying is getting ripped off!! I changed my own oil (PureOne Filter and Mobil1 Synthetic, better then the dealer's stuff) and brought my car to the local tire and wheel shop (who I have a good relationship with) and he rotated the tires for $10!! I am thinking about bringing the car in for the 15k checkup though... haven't decided yet. I may just change my own ATF fluid..... we'll see.

first 2 free in Canada

Guys,

I wish I got the * 2 years FREE * service Aman13AK negotiated. In any instance, Acura Canada has given us new TL owners the first 2 services as a goodwill gesture. US$70 approx= CA$110. Wow -- that's some expensive sh*t!

For the oil changes, I go to the local Honda dealer -- they have 10W-20 oil, all the Honda-certified fluids AND they charge less per hr mechanic's time. Only thing is for warranty repairs and unique parts for the TL not found in the Accord.

I'm happy with my arrangement with my Honda dealer. But will definitely go to an Acura dealer to do the timing belt and more major maintenance services.

My $0.02.
- derrick

Westchester, NY, Curry ACURA: 7500 miles service:
Lube, oil, filter, tire rotation, top up of all the fluids, $110, and they only book a week in advance. Is there such a demand for this?!:wow:

systek - yup.. I loved that car, but couldn't resist the TL-S. The way I weasled this car is that I played the getting married card. I told my fiance that I'll need a bigger car eventually, and since money is usually tight right after you get married I should upgrade to a 4-door now!! It worked.... but the only problem is that since I've already played that card I think it's gone forever!!

Laurelcrest - Curry is my dealership too. They've always done the week in advance thing, since I had my CL (1998). Their service dept. is good, but I'd still rather save the $110 and do it myself.....
