7 HID thefts in 1 day-in 1 parking lot

HID theft in Northern NJ is out of control. I was talking to a cop in East Hanover NJ and he said last week - 7 gone in one Lucent Tech parking lot alone. Every day they see at least one HID theft. I can see my car from my office but any advice on a better alarm?? I always try to park out in the open "only advice the cop gave me". These thefts are all during the day. In my surronding area this is happening every day. Any help?

Hey I just brought a type-s that I am picking up next Friday. Since the problem of HID theft my dealer threw in an accessory to the factory alarm. It adds motion sensors to the system. The best part is the system functions just as if it was from the factory. The remote key remains the factory original. Talk to your dealer about it, I believe it costs something like $350.

$350 seems kinda high. Do a search, I think people have added a shock sensor to the factory alarm for $50.

I Haven't done it to mine yet, But I was quoted around $40

Park Avenue Acura is offering a shock sensor for $160 including installation. Their web site is www.parkaveacura.com. Click on Comptech for more details.

darkalley: If you work at Lucent, talk to your security or facilities manager about securing the parking lot. If that doesn't work, gather all the people who have lost their headlights together and demand better security.

Adding motion sensors may be pointless; a professional thief (like these are) know to ignore the alarm since no-one is coming anyway.

You may have better luck with a pager alarm, so you can dispatch security when the theft is underway.

HID Theft

This is happening in the Flushing, Queens area in NY also.
They peel the hood and fenders back to get the HID units.
I hear it usually happens in the early AM and watch out for a white Maxima 95-99 model

Damn, that's expensive.. I got a dual-stage shock sensor for $15 with shipping. My dads friend (who does alarms and stereos on the side) installed it in 15 min (added it to the factory alarm)... so I threw him $5... $20 total and now if you just "knock" on the car the alarm goes off.....

Although you may have a point Daverman, I think if the alarm is going off, its either going to be too loud in the thieves ear, or its not going to be worth getting caught, so the thief will find another TL without the shock sensor, don't you think?

almost the same here, I bought the sensor for $20 and installed it myself using the instructions on this site.

works perfect after like 5 months now.

Wow, for them to charge $350 is crazy!
