I posed this message yesterday but it disapperared. I drive a 2000TL and am approaching 60000 miles. I have been quoted many different for the 60000 mile service..from $645 to $389. Anybody had this service and at what price? Any ideas as to the difference in price?

please do not do this!!!! cause you will be ripped the hell off. The "maintence" is just a way them to get you into a dealer.

I have a '99 and I took it to a reputable car mechanic and he checked it out... He works on Hondas and Acuras and the light is only by millage and he told me all I needed was some fuel treatment and new wipers AKA 50 bucks not $600+. Our cars hardley ever need work, unless something goes wrong - thats why we have a $30000 car. not a cheep ass ford or something.

If you take care of your car, change your fluids, then you shouldnt need to spend any real $$$ untill like 100000 and then maybe a tune up. AT about 60000 you may need to change your spark pulgs, but you can do that yourself

DONT EVER GO TO THE DEALER!!!! they FU$K you!!!!

Good luck

So anyhow, you should take your car somewhere to get the 60K . Coming from an insurance standpoint, the best and safest route is the dealership or some other "Honda/Acura" certified shop.

There're quite a few things that need to be checked out, not just your spark plugs and fluids. I've had a talk with several vehicle inspectors in my company, they all say that two important things that need to be done, that most "self-service" folks don't do are:

1) Check and rotate tires.
2) Check the timing belt if you have one, especially if you've got a valve interference engine.

I am not meaning to start a flame war however I must ask whether you think it is necessary that an Acura dealer is the only one in town who can rotate and balance tires and check the T-belt.

1) any place can rotate and balance for much less then the dealer
2) show me someone who can 'check' the t-belt by eyeballing it and determining whether it is fine or not. Cant be done. Best advice is to just change it out in the recommended interval
3) dealers WILL jack you on the price and not provide as good service as it may seem.
4) I agree that MAJOR service should be done however by the dealer. That is why the first time my 99 ever saw the inside of an Acura shop is when the T-belt and h2o pump needed to be replaced. The next time it will see that shop is another 100k down the road!

Just my thoughts on the subject. Why throw away money when you really dont have to.

Axe out

Cool

Don't do it.... you will pay a lot for the same nothing.

Just ask them to replace spark plugs, change engine oil & trans oil (if you didn't change the trans oil for the last 10000 mile)...

Timing belt shall last more than 80000mile

nah.. the only time I ever brought my 99 tl to the dealer is for them to check on the lights or problems and tranny. Other than that I got the water pump and timing belt changed outside it cost alot because of the work, but I also had my rotors changed.
