6 speed swap

Has anyone give seriouse thought in doing a 6 speed swap?

Level Ten wants near $4500 for a transmission with torque converter, so I just wanted to know if anyone has looked into just going with a 6 speed.

I know someone with an accord v6 has a legend 5 speed done, but i needed a lot of custom fabrication. Does anyone know if the 6 speed form the CL would be a bit easier to attach?

Thanks.

Please, don't rip on me too much.

I think its cheaper just to go out and buy a new CL-S 6speed then to do a swap. I know, I'd love to do this too Maybe someone will be brave

i think it's possible that the new CL's manual tranny might be easier to attach since you know... CL and TL is pretty much the same car almost... but 4500... thas a whole lot of money

If the TL and CL share the same chassis, which seems like they do, and the same engine, then it should almost be a bolt-on application. They are both front wheel drive, etc. etc...but then again who knows. That might be something worth looking into...

I have given it some serious thought.

Well is not just a swap nor easy bolt on, but yes it duable. It will cost you a good amount of money.

you are going to need:

New 6-speed tranny......cost $4k-$5k
New ECU-PCM....cost over $1k
New center console, shifter, etc.....cost over $500.
New gauges.....cost over $400. not just the plate
If you have a type S.....removing VSA.....TLP.....removing TCS.
Labor $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

probably new axles/CV joint, since they might not be the same lenght.

that is all I could think of at the moment.

And also, I realized that I would have to relocate the E-brake for the clutch pedal. And for $4000-$5000, would that include everything?

I would wait a bit to see if I can buy the parts from somewhere else, other than acura.

Is there anyplace I can look for OEM parts? I tried a few places online, but they don't have much.

And I need this to do the bigger mods....

i think OEM parts are the pretty much same price either you get it from acura or any other local boady shops... the difference might be the labor price...

on the side note, i dunno what you are planning to do but i think you are going to end up with the craziest TL yet... but what bitium said was right... you are going to shell out way more than $4-5k

Per Comptech, the 6-speed engine has a different/relocated engine mount. That's why the Comptech headers for the autos will not fit the 6-speed version. However, Comptech is making headers that fit the 6 speed. So I don't know what is involved in the engine mount if you want to swap your auto for the 6-speed. Good luck.
