5years and SICK depreciation!!

Hi, after owning my car for almost 5years, i started to notice that my car is worth 35-40% of the factory cost. Even though my "dady" payed 26,000 because it was bought as the '00 5speed TL was introduced in late september '99.

I came up with the following INCREDIBLE facts about the TL:
At 67kmi, the car rides like it did when i had 670mi on it and probably will when i have 167kmi. Luxyry and speed and looks and NAV and leather and roomy and comfortable and...and. Factoy price 32k negotiable!!! OMG!!!
Not to take a lot of space i think this car is one of the best deals if not THE BEST for a car, and back in '99 this car could take on 95% of the cars on the road.

Even today, i've been looking around to trade in for a resonable $'d car. So im looking for a fast sporty confortable machine. If i trade for a car under $30k (WRX, SRT-4) i will end up Degrading from my TL...nobody wants this. Closeby, theres the STI, EVO (wont last too long->garbage) the G35, 350Z, BMW 3s adding a lot off $$...

I cant seem to reach a conclusion on wether to trade in or keep my '99 or not. What do you guys think about the TL compared to what you were going to get instead of the TL? any competition?

I'm in the same boat.. my '99 (FBP/Ebony) has 81,000 miles on it but is in great shape... I've been a regular user of Zaino on the exterior and 303 and Lexol on the interior. There's no way I could trade it in and get what I believe it's worth to me. Just had an alignment, switched to synthetic, original tranny still shifting smooth. I'm going to keep driving the thing until it breaks.. and then go in 100% on a whole new car. Maybe the '06 Turbo Legacy if they add HID and NAV

I am also in the same boat. I have 86,000 miles on my 99 TL and it still ride like it is new, even with all my mods.

I say keep it and enjoy it cause it will last you for a very long time. That's what I'm doing.

I got 60k on my 99. Looks new, except for some small swirl marks .I am keeping this machine becasue I love it. I am using Mobil1 5W-30 for now on. I want it to last 200k. I'll keeping modding it too.

It's alomst stock, and I have gotten 2 speeding tickets. I don't think I need a brand new 270 HP. Unless I want to live in Germany and drive on their highways

If your car is fully paid for and it does everything you want it to do, Why would you want to get a new car with a new car payments when you can continue to drive for free :-).
Every mile you continue to drive with a car that's paid for is money in the bank. IMHO.

couple of suggestions

if your car is paid off, then you can do the following things...

1) Trade/Sell your TL and get in to a newer TL (ie. 2002+)
2) Trade/Sell your TL and get in to a "sporty" car (ie. fitting you and your preference
3) Keep your TL and drive it to the ground AND invest the "extra money" in a crotch rocket!

It's not bad to get into something new every once in a while. However, you are correct about the TL's.... these are nice unmatchable cars!

How's the C32? My coworker has one and I ran with him. I hung with him pretty tightly, but I don't know if he was just toying with me.

C32 AMG has 349 bhp. Will walk a stock TLS without question. You may be able to stay with an non-AMG version.

c32 AM runs a supercharged v6 w/ 354HP and 332Trq @ 3200RPM...0-60 in 4.7-5.0 and 1/4mi in 13-13.2 auto with SS. its small + about 2/3 the weight of the TL, Confortable as hell!! takes the turns like no other car i've ever been in and it has one of those integrated radar/laser detector + stealth to radar/laser...ya, its fast. Non AMG version, the 320 is slow, the TL-S will smoke it, but the AMG will own even a modded TL-S.

Anyways, my 5year old machine might be traded in before 05...i dont know if i wanna keep or trade it...im looking for a faster car, but if i do get one it wont be as confortable as the TL.

i really like the WRX and STi, love the Srt-4, love the G35 and my favorite M3...i might be in the market for an 03+. Are there any cool new cars? next year cars?

That AMG is using a supercharged V6 and rear wheel drive. Let's put a supercharger into the TL, plus rear wheel drive and see what happens. I'm sure the 04 TL with supercharger will kick the little C AMG.

Anyways...the Acura's are more youthfull cars...driving a BENZ means you are too old and balding. Even the AMG cars look like a grandpas car.

Is it just me, or does the rear end of the '05 Legacy look a lot like a '04+ TL. Overall, though, a great looking car that is worth a further look. My $.02.

I agee with Jayhawk. The tail lights are a little similar to the '04 TL. I don't think I would want to downgrade to a 4 cyl, even though the turbo lets it get 250 hp. Its still 20 less than the '04 TL with less low end V6 torque. It's only slightly less expensive at 29K. It's worth considering, but I'd have to give the nod to the Acura TL, especially if you also consider resale value later.
