5speed auto in a 99

5speed auto in a 99

i got a new trans put in my 99tl at around 60000 miles.
it was 4 speed.

they replaced it with 5 speed.

i swear.

i've been driving the new trans for 2 mos, counting the upshifts..

is this possible?...or am i carzy?..

You'll be able to tell when you put it into SportShift and it doesn't hold first. If it holds first until the rev limiter than it's still a fourspeed ('99) if I'm correct.

If it shifts from first to second without your manual stimulation before rev limit than it might be a 5 speed.

Does the sport shift light go to 5? Unless they replaced the shift gate, there is no way you got a 5-speed tranny.

whats the gearing like in the 99? the 00+ with 5 speed runs mid 30's in 1st 60ish in 2nd shifts into 4th around 90-95(in d5)

I don't think so beside swap out the shift gate they have to replace the computer also and for sure HONDA will not going to cover that.

he's probably noticing the torque converter locking up in forth gear thinking its an extra shift..

I agree. The torque converter lock up can feel like it's grabbing another gear. I would guess that's what you're feeling and counting that as your 5th gear.

If you're crusing at 70 mph, what is your tach reading? If you're at 2000rpm, you've got a 5 speed. If you're over 2500rpm, you've got a 4 speed.
