50$ tranny fluid change?

So last night I stop on local "Acura Honda Specialist" autoshop i Oxford MA. I asked the how much they charge for changing tranny fluid. Iwas told that it will be 50$. I asked them also what kind of fluid their`re using for it - they said the Honda one. It sound like a dream , so I made app for Friday. After a couple of minutes chating with them I`m positive that they know a lot about our Acuras, so I will give them a chance.

$50 is pretty good...but I must ask, you can't do it yourself?

$50 is the average cost for tranny fluid change. I pay that much when I got it done in an Acura dealership. If it is a tranny flush and change, then it is like 100+

It probably makes sense to have it flushed also if it hasn't been done recently.

For $50 you will get ONLY a drain and refill with the proper Honda spec fluid for our cars

Thats a good start, and if you change it every 15k like the new cars require- its fine

For an 03- I personally would do the 3 times flush method to rid the system of old fluid

Long live your transmission

Honda and Acura do not recommend a flush, only a drain and refill.

Than why does the dealer recommend a transmission flush at 30,000 miles?

Why would I know why a dealer recommends something?

I don't know why people don't do a search, or read older threads, before asking a question, either. Some are lazy and want others to do their work for them. Others are illiterate. I can't explain the rest. Sorry.

I trust the wisdom of 5 times trans failure - our Moderator, fsttyms1
He says to do the 3 x method

The system holds 10 quarts total- of which you can drain 3.5

Would you drain 1 quart of engine oil and add 1 new-
call it good and keep driving?

Not a machine hot flush as quickie places do-
the way its detailed here with drain-refill-drive-X3

P.S. Replacing the fluid in the Brake Master Cylinder only does not constitute Brake Fluid Flush. Until fresh new fluid comes out all the bleeders- its a sham!

With all the problems i have ran into recently after getting a tranny flush from my mechanic in cambridge MA. I will do all that stuff at the dealer from now on. Little expensive....but you can bring the car back if there is anything going on afterwards. I am very skeptical of the acura transmissions so i just rather go to the people that konw them

There could not be a simpler job on the TL
Remove drain plug, add new fluid
drive 5 minutes
remove drain plug
add new fluid
The ATF filler is right there below where the vac line for seafoam is
It says ATF on it!

What about changing the transmission filters? How many are there and can they be done at home in the garage?

Just got a quote from a shop that wants $160 to change the trans fluid and filters.

Thinking of getting a manual to do it myself.

That shop is full of it- run for your life

There are no filters to clean or change on th eTL transmission
Just the 3qts 3 times drain refill drive drain refill drive method described above

Thats all the manual you need right there! Read above post

I change my fluid every 3rd oil change. Round 10-12K. About 3 qts out then 3 qts in. Cost me a 1/2 hour of time and $19 bucks. You don't have to jack up the car. Just measure what comes out and put that amount back into the filler hole on the top of the tranny. I do replace the crush washer.
Savings=$31.00 plus gas driving to the garage and your time sitting in the waiting room. I use the Honda Tranny fluid.

Drain plug is easy to get to. It's on the drivers side (under tranny) and it sticks out to the side-it's actually a bolt. You just take a socket wrench (don't need a socket-just the wrench) and twist it. Fluid squirts out a few inches to the side and can be hot so make sure your drain pan is placed to catch it. After draining it, you can refill from the top (towards the back of the trans-actually stamped ATF)-17mm socket. Fill using long funnel or turkey baster + short funnel). Very easy to do. No jack required.
