3A tips

(i did a search on this already...didn't find anything useful, please help)

what's the deal with the 3A tips needing to be centered??...
i dun really understand....
i just got my tips yesterday, but it came with no instructions...

would i be able to bolt it on myself and centering it w/o any tools of some sort???
do i just unbolt the stock tips and bolt the 3A's on...or do i have to be careful centering it...how do i kno if it's centered or not??
would it matter if it's centered or not?? would it affect performance or cause damage...sounds complicated

would i need stainless steel bolts b/c i heard the orig. ones aren't that great...??

any input would be helpful...thx

I just got my 3a tips and put them on today, and I also have questions. As far as centering them, I just laid them on, tightened the bolts a little and kept backing up to look to make sure they looked OK.....then I tightened them up. Just use your judgement......

One problem though, 1 screw on each of my tips seems to be stripped. 2 bolts (bottom, and one top) tightened up nicely but one bolt never got tight. Will these things stay on with 2 tight bolts? I was trying to shake then around with my hand and they stayed in position, but I'd hate for one to fall off!!!

I would recommend getting new bolts for them (stainless or galvanized), or some people have even welded them on (afraid of some prick stealing them). Yes, they need centered, but like aformentioned, just use your judgement.
At first I used the bolts that came with it, and after driving around, a couple got loose. So, get new ones (the ones that came with it might even rust).
Hope tht helps.

Welcome to the weak point of 3A tips, the cheap bolts strip out really easy. Replace them - with good bolts.

Well then, new bolts it is! I love the look of these tips though!! I just hope they stay on until this weekend, and I hope I can just replace 1 bolt at a time so that these things don't move. It took me forever to get them to look even!

Hey numbaone, not everyone wants crazy expensive exhaust systems on their TL's, some people like their stock exhaust but want nicer tips than those that come stock. Try to keep your pointless comments to yourself next time.

having trouble taking off the stock tips

i'm having a hard time trying to get the bolt off holding the stock tip. it's like those damn things are welded on! i sprayed some wd-40 on it and they wouldn't give when i tried twisting them off with pliers. i see it also bolted on the inside of the tip but i can't reach it with needle nose pliers to hold it down while i unscrew the outside bolt...is it just me or did it also take u guys some time to get them off???

i'm convinced that those things are welded on. they won't even budge at all. the harder i try twisting on them, the metal on the bolts is coming off. and that bolt size doesn't fit any of my wrenches. what did u use to take off your stock tips?

after reading that the bolts which came with the tips are not the best bolts and a chance that the tips might get stolen, i've decided to weld the tips onto mine....

does anyone know how to?? or do i have to take it to a shop to do it?? what's the cost?? Is it a good idea???
